TALLAHASSEE (FLV) \u2013\u00a0Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis wants Florida lawmakers to approve criminal penalties for potential \u201cpolitically motivated\u201d audits after the Biden Administration approved funding for 87,000 new IRS agents.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are people and they\u2019re human and they will make decisions based on their own politics,\u201d Patronis said. \u201cAnd when somebody crosses a line in the role of their job as an IRS agent and it\u2019s politically motivated, we will create those criminal penalties.\u201d<\/p>\n

Patronis did not detail what those penalties would include, but said they would create a deterrent. He pointed<\/a> back to when the IRS, in 2013, gave conservative groups seeking-tax exempt status extra scrutiny.<\/p>\n

Patronis said in a Fox News interview he wants lawmakers to consider his proposals in the legislative session.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd Washington, I\u2019m sorry you know, they\u2019re obsessed with the state of Florida and Ron DeSantis,\u201d he said. \u201cSo we\u2019re going to protect Floridians.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Inflation Reduction Act includes funding for 87,000 new IRS agents.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I\u2019m keeping my campaign commitment: No one \u2014 let me emphasize \u2014 no one earning less than $400,000 a year will pay a penny more in federal taxes,\u201d Biden\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0in a recent speech.<\/p>\n
