Members of <a href=\"http:\/\/irregulators.org\/who-we-are\/\">the group<\/a> have been working together, in different configurations, since 1999.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Networks Institute<\/strong> was established in 1992 as a telecommunications market research and consulting firm. Over $500 billion in excess profits has been collected, but America is not a fiber optic nation. The State claims that there are still 2.14 million \u2018voice-only\u2019 access lines in service. (Note: This number of copper-based access lines is low for <a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/bruce-kushnick\/how-many-special-access-l_b_9371370.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/bruce-kushnick\/how-many-special-access-l_b_9371370.html\">multiple reasons<\/a>.) We estimate that this settlement is valued at $300 million to $1\/2 billion in additional spending by Verizon in New York State over time.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>In 2010, we uncovered what appeared to be a massive cross-subsidy scheme where Verizon NY, state utility was acting as a cash machine for Verizon\u2019s other lines of business, including Verizon Wireless. Instead of upgrading the cities with fiber, much of the work was now moving to wireless \u2014 but much of this was being charged to local phone customers via Title II.<\/li>\n<li>The Connect New York Coalition, filed a Petition with the New York State Public Service Commission to do a formal investigation of Verizon New York. July 1, 2014. The Petition is based, in part, on NNI\u2019s continuing research.<\/li>\n<li>We Filed in FCC\u2019S \u201cNet Neutrality\u201d Proceeding: The Book of Broken Promises Can Disrupt the FCC\u2019s Plans<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/newnetworks.com\/solved-net-neutrality\/\">New Report:<\/a>\u00a0Solving Net Neutrality: We Found a Fatal Structural Flaw in Every FCC Proceeding\u201d, February 26th, 2018<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The FCC claims that Net Neutrality and something called \u201cTitle II\u201d harmed investment.\u00a0 And the FCC wants to preempt the states from taking actions. Unfortunately for the FCC, we have found a structural flaw \u2014 The FCC has never examined\u00a0 the state-based fiber optic broadband commitments, and Title II is used by Verizon to make to divert billions of expenses from their other businesses into the wired networks. The Book of Broken Promises shows we paid for networks we never got\u2013 and proves the FCC is trying to manipulate Net Neutrality.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>We Filed in FCC\u2019S \u201cShut Off the Copper\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/ecfsapi.fcc.gov\/file\/1071888613875\/IRREGULATORSCOPPERSHUTOFF.pdf\">Proceeding<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>History shows that \u201cAccelerating Wireline Broadband Deployment by Removing Barriers to Infrastructure Investment\u201d, the focus of this proceeding\u2014 has virtually never worked and neither the FCC, the state commissions, the ILEC phone companies AT&amp;T, Verizon or CenturyLink, or their funded-groups has ever discussed this fact.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Public Knowledge, New Networks Institute and Consumer Federation File to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicknowledge.org\/documents\/public-knowledge-business-data-services-amicus-brief\">Appeal FCC Business Data Services Decision<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Public Knowledge, Consumer Federation of America, and New Networks Institute <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicknowledge.org\/documents\/public-knowledge-business-data-services-amicus-brief\">filed an amicus brief<\/a> in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit requesting the Court to overturn and remand the Federal Communications Commission\u2019s recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicknowledge.org\/press-release\/public-knowledge-responds-to-fcc-bds-order-set-to-raise-prices-stifle-compe\">Business Data Services deregulation Order<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/irregulators.org\/our-work-reports-filings\/\">Bibliography and Reports<\/a><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This FCC shut down proposed privacy laws, which lets the companies sell your browsing history and track you on all devices. Their next act is attempting to eliminate Net Neutrality. Worse, the companies can raise your rates at will, and there will be no requirement to even provide or fix your service, much less make sure that there is serious competition.
