NHS psychologists in the UK are over-diagnosing sex change treatment for children over fears of being branded \u201ctransphobic.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Thirty five psychologists in London have resigned over the last 3 years alone as a result of feeling pressured to green light hormone treatment for children with gender dsyphoria.<\/p>\n One psychologist who wished to remain anonymous told\u00a0Sky News<\/a>\u00a0that the developments represented a \u201cmedical scandal.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOur fears are that young people are being over-diagnosed and then over-medicalised,\u201d the psychologist said.<\/p>\n He added that staff members were shut down by other clinicians when they tried to voice concerns and feared being labeled \u201ctransphobic\u201d if they didn\u2019t approve treatment.<\/p>\n \u201cLooking back there are young people who I now wouldn\u2019t necessarily put on medication,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Earlier this year, it was revealed that five people working at Britain\u2019s only NHS transgender clinic had quit after children as young as three were being through unnecessary gender reassignment treatment.<\/p>\n \u201cReferrals to the clinic risen in recent years, with 94 in 2010, rising to 2,519 by last year, with the youngest patient aged just three,\u201d reported the Daily Mail.<\/p>\n
