Louisville, Kentucky, following their detachment from a tugboat.<\/p>\n<p>The Louisville Metropolitan Emergency Services\u00a0 said the navigation accident occurred early Tuesday morning when three barges &#8212; part of a group of ten &#8212; broke free from a tugboat after hitting a structure at the entrance to the Portland Canal near the river&#8217;s McAlpine Locks and Dam.<\/p>\n<p><a told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/barges-one-carrying-methanol-break-free-tug-boat-ohio-river-rcna77109\">NBC News<\/a>\u00a0that state and federal agencies are trying to remove barges.
