After police in Seattle, Washington retreated from the Capitol Hill neighborhood, protesters took over the abandoned \u2018regime\u2019 precinct and erected barricades to mark an \u2018autonomous zone\u2019 for several blocks around it.<\/p>\n

Six blocks of downtown Seattle have been declared the \u2018Free Capitol Hill Zone\u2019 or \u2018Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone\u2019 (CHAZ), according to area activists that have taken control of Seattle PD\u2019s East Precinct, on 12th Avenue and E. Pine Street.<\/p>\n

Journalist Julio Rosas tweeted photos from the \u2018zone,\u2019 including flyers demanding that Seattle PD be defunded, and declaring that police\u00a0\u201cwill always be racist because capitalism requires inequality.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
