The disgraced yet absurdly\u00a0wealthy<\/a>\u00a0Dr. Anthony Fauci has insisted that his position on the COVID virus \u2013 that it was not a lab leak \u2013 is correct because someone from the notorious Wuhan lab probably got infected \u201cin the field\u201d before the virus\u00a0then<\/em>\u00a0leaked from a lab. His comments came during an interview where he bizarrely compared anti-lockdown Trump supporters to the \u201ctheatric\u201d homosexuals who opposed his HIV work in the 1980s and 1990s.<\/p>\n

Fauci \u2013 who served as Chief Medical Adviser to President Joe Biden until the end of 2022, and as Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) from the mid-1980s \u2013 made the remarks in a lengthy\u00a0interview<\/a>\u00a0with David Wallace-Wells of the\u00a0New York Times.<\/em>\u00a0The reporter even challenges Fauci on his involvement with the Wuhan lab directly \u2013\u00a0a fact first revealed by The National Pulse:<\/a><\/p>\n

Wallace-Wells\u2019s insistence of a \u201clarge American component to the development of this whole international enterprise, going back several decades\u201d \u2013 which Fauci \u201cplayed a role in developing and funding\u201d \u2013 is sure to have rankled the\u00a0formerly highest paid government bureaucrat<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the intelligence groups agree that this was not an engineered virus,\u201d Fauci claimed, in language which will be familiar to conservatives used to establishment figures harping on the\u00a0\u201cseventeen intelligence agencies\u201d<\/a>\u00a0or the\u00a0\u201cfifty-one former intelligence officials\u201d<\/a>\u00a0when pushing various Russia hoaxes.<\/p>\n

\u201c[I]f it\u2019s not an engineered virus, what actually leaked from the lab? If it wasn\u2019t an engineered virus, somebody went out into the field, got infected, came back to the lab and then spread it out to other people,\u201d Fauci suggested.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019 ain\u2019t a lab leak, strictly speaking. That\u2019s a natural occurrence,\u201d he insisted, heedless of the fact the \u201cnatural occurrence\u201d being described is a virus leaking from a laboratory setting.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Ultraright MAGA Community\u2019.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Fauci was also pressed on a $120,000-a-year EcoHealth grant to the Wuhan Institute,\u00a0another series of exclusives first revealed<\/a>\u00a0by the\u00a0crowd-funded National Pulse.<\/a><\/p>\n

The 82-year-old insisted that, per \u201call of their progress reports,\u201d the viruses involved in the funded research \u201ccould not possibly ever turn into SARS-CoV-2\u201d. His thesis relies on Wuhan researchers being truthful with their American counterparts, of course. A fact that Fauci appears to take for granted despite the lab\u2019s\u00a0stringent political requirements.<\/a><\/p>\n

Wallace-Wells noted, \u201c[W]e know that there was a lot of other work being done in Wuhan,\u201d and gently suggested, \u201c[I]f I were you, and I was going to sleep every night thinking that there was even some very small chance that the virus came from a laboratory doing the kinds of research that I had helped promote and fund over the last few decades, I think that might weigh on me a bit\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I sleep fine,\u201d Fauci bit back.<\/p>\n

The physician-technocrat came across similarly tetchy throughout the interview, with some of his contempt for conservative lockdown and vaccine skeptics coming through in remarks comparing \u201cthe ultraright MAGA community with COVID\u201d unfavorably to \u201ctheatrics\u201d within \u201cthe gay community with H.I.V.\u201d:<\/p>\n
