CV NEWS FEED \/\/ On May 9, the Connecticut House of Representatives passed a bill that would effectively expand the definition of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation to include \u201cdiscrimination\u201d against so-called \u201cminor-attracted persons.\u201d<\/p>\n

H.B. 6638<\/a>, also known as \u201cAn Act Revising the State\u2019s Antidiscrimination Statutes,\u201d\u00a0passed<\/a>\u00a0by a landslide margin of 132-17, with two members absent from the vote. A significant majority of the state\u2019s 53 House Republicans voted in favor of the bill.<\/p>\n

The state\u2019s House Democratic caucus described the bill as seeking to \u201cmodernize and improve consistency in\u201d the state\u2019s \u201cdiscrimination statutes.\u201d The Connecticut American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which supports the bill,\u00a0used similar language, stating<\/a>\u00a0that \u201cit modernizes the existing definition of sexual orientation, moving away from thirty-year-old outdated and offensive terminology.\u201d<\/p>\n
