Chinese state propaganda outlet\u00a0Global Times<\/em>\u00a0on Thursday branded increasingly breathless efforts to destroy statues, disappear films and books, and otherwise erase unsavory history in the United States \u201cAmerica\u2019s Cultural Revolution,\u201d a reference to the massacres under Mao Zedong in the 1960s.<\/h3>\nThe\u00a0Global Times<\/em>\u00a0concluded that the American \u201cCultural Revolution\u201d is \u201cuseless\u201d because America\u2019s federalist, democratic political framework makes true revolution and \u201cequality\u201d impossible. The state-run newspaper regularly\u00a0urges<\/a>\u00a0Americans to abandon their constitution and individual freedoms for a Chinese-style totalitarian communist system.<\/p>\nThe column on Thursday was prompted by a frenzy of far-left demands in the United States to\u00a0destroy<\/a>\u00a0statues of historical figures \u2013 particularly the first European to successfully navigate a voyage to the Americas, Christopher Columbus, and leaders of the failed \u201cConfederate\u201d insurgency that resulted in the American Civil War. Some extremists have also\u00a0demanded<\/a>\u00a0making unavailable for public consumption artwork about the Confederacy, like the film\u00a0Gone with the Wind<\/em>, which resulted in the first Academy Award win for a black American actor in history. Several television programs depicting police work have also been canceled in response to violent rioting against police in major cities.<\/p>\n\u201cProtests and riots across the U.S. sparked by the death of George Floyd have developed into a new stage \u2013 America\u2019s\u00a0Cultural Revolution, a broader social movement,\u201d the\u00a0Global Times<\/em>\u00a0declared<\/a>. \u201cUnfortunately, neither the protesters nor Democrats have come up with practical solution [sic] to address the long-standing racial problems, but are using the fury of the people to gain political benefit.\u201d<\/p>\nThe destruction of \u201ccounter-revolutionary\u201d artwork is \u201csomething similar to what we did in the 1960s-1970s,\u201d the\u00a0Global Times<\/em>\u00a0quoted unnamed \u201cChinese netizens\u201d as saying. As the Communist Party controls all Chinese social media, only Party-approved opinions are allowed. Chinese state news outlets use these Party-approved statements as alleged evidence of Chinese popular sentiment.<\/p>\nThe\u00a0Global Times<\/em>\u00a0cited \u201cChinese analysts\u201d \u2013 Party-approved experts, who concluded that \u201cthese acts, such as targeting films and statues, as well as protests in other Western countries sparked by the same reasons, are all useless in solving the real problems faced by minorities and the lower class in the U.S.\u201d The real problem is America\u2019s \u201cunfair social system,\u201d the mouthpiece for a nation holding millions hostage in\u00a0concentration camps<\/a>\u00a0concluded.<\/p>\nThe true nature of the system, one \u201canalyst\u201d said, is proven by how Americans identify by different races and ethnicities \u201cbut not proletariat or bourgeoisie, which reflects the theory of Marxism.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe federalism and separation of powers in the U.S. has buried the seeds to potentially separate the country. But in the past, due to the unshakable U.S. hegemony, the country avoided this problem by plundering other countries through wars and US-led globalization,\u201d another alleged \u201cexpert\u201d said.<\/p>\n
In another column on Thursday, the\u00a0Global Times<\/em>\u00a0also\u00a0railed<\/a>\u00a0against \u201cpolitical correctness\u201d \u2013 apparently in contradiction to its approval of \u201cAmerica\u2019s Cultural Revolution\u201d \u2013 for being an insufficient fix to the blight of American values of individual freedom. Taking down statues and erasing films from history \u201care only temporary relief that will definitely fail to touch the core of the deep-rooted racial inequality in the U.S.,\u201d the propaganda outlet concluded, adding that, despite the fact that America once allowed legal slavery, \u201cethnic minorities in today\u2019s U.S. suffer more than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cUnder the current US political structure, the problems of racial inequality are nearly impossible to be solved,\u201d the\u00a0Global Times<\/em>\u00a0concluded in its argument for totalitarianism. \u201cConflicts between Republicans and Democrats are becoming extremely intense. They will not compromise. Worse, both parties don\u2019t even dare think about compromising. Hence, the impetus and vitality for reform are lost in the day-to-day party conflicts.\u201d<\/p>\nMao Zedong\u2019s \u201cCultural Revolution,\u201d in some ways an attempt to end the famine caused by the \u201cGreat Leap Forward,\u201d was an extreme violent movement to silence, torture, kill, and sometimes eat \u201ccounter-revolutionaries\u201d in society launched in the 1960s. University of Hong Kong Professor Frank\u00a0Dik\u00f6tter, who has studied archival documents from the time, described the campaign that preceded the Cultural Revolution as \u201can effort to gradually close down all very basic civil liberties\u201d in a 2016\u00a0interview<\/a>\u00a0with NPR.<\/p>\n\u201cThe freedom of speech, the freedom of movement, the freedom of association, of belief, you name it \u2013 one by one are being gradually shut down as a \u2013 as the one-party state starts pretty much consolidating its power. So by the time that you\u2019re in 1957, in particular in the countryside, most ordinary villages have lost control over their own land, over their own tools, sometimes even over their schedules,\u201d Dik\u00f6tter explained. \u201cThey\u2019ve become pretty much bonded servants at the beck and call of local party officials. So it gradually \u2013 a gradual closing down of all liberties.\u201d<\/p>\n
By the time the Cultural Revolution began in 1966, these \u201cbonded servants\u201d had a mandate to torture and kill doctors, professors, and any professionals as \u201ccounter-revolutionaries.\u201d<\/p>\n

An anonymous witness stated that, in Wuxuan, a southern city, \u201cthe hearts, livers, and genitals of victims were cut out and fed to revelers.\u201d<\/p>\n
