(The Jewish Chronicle<\/a><\/em>) A historian is now denying that there were enough Jews in Spain to organize a \u201cJewish-Masonic-Bolshevik Conspiracy\u201d which Francisco Franco believed was\u00a0actively hell-bent on destroying and overthrowing Christian Spain<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201cIn May 1949, Israel\u2019s ambassador to the UN addressed the General Assembly to\u00a0<\/strong>oppose the re-establishment of diplomatic relations with Europe\u2019s last surviving fascist regime:\u00a0Francisco Franco\u2019s Spain.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe do not for a moment assert that the Spanish regime has any direct part in [the] policy of extermination<\/strong>,\u201d Abba Eban declared. \u201cBut<\/strong>\u00a0we do assert that it was an active and\u00a0sympathetic ally<\/strong>\u00a0of the regime that was responsible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Several months later, Madrid responded. In a 50-page dossier,\u00a0Espana y los Judios<\/strong>, Franco\u2019s propagandists claimed that, thanks to its \u201csympathy and friendship\u201d, Spain had, in fact, saved thousands of imperiled Jews from death at the hands of the Nazis.<\/p>\n

But, as Professor Paul Preston\u2019s new book,\u00a0Architects of Terror: Paranoia, Conspiracy and Antisemitism in Franco\u2019s Spain<\/strong>, painstakingly and conclusively details, these claims were utterly disingenuous.<\/p>\n

Instead,\u00a0a vicious current of antisemitism<\/strong>\u00a0coursed through Franco\u2019s decades-long rule \u2014 a reflection of El Caudillo\u2019s own\u00a0warped and conspiratorial worldview<\/strong>. Indeed, even at the very moment he was falsely claiming a hitherto unseen humanitarian streak, Franco was penning a series of\u00a0antisemitic diatribes<\/strong>\u00a0under a pseudonym that appeared in the fascist\u2019s daily newspaper Arriba.<\/p>\n

Those articles \u2014 in which he claimed that a mere \u201chandful of Jews\u201d had been the \u201ctarget of German racism\u201d \u2014 revealed Franco\u2019s enduring and deep-rooted\u00a0belief in what the Spanish far-right had termed the \u201cJewish-Masonic-Bolshevik conspiracy\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Despite the fact that Spain\u2019s Jewish population numbered no more than 6,000 in 1936, the fiction that the country\u2019s Catholic civilisation was under assault from a conspiracy, directed by Jews and carried out by communists and freemasons<\/strong>, was the central justification for the Civil War that Franco prosecuted over the next three blood-soaked years.<\/p>\n

Jew-hate<\/strong>\u00a0entered the Spanish political mainstream in the early 1930s, fed by numerous editions of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion and the publication of the best-selling \u201cOrigins of the Spanish Revolution<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 written by a Catalan priest,\u00a0Juan Tusquets Terrats<\/a><\/strong>, it popularised both the Protocols and the notion of the Jewish-led conspiracy.<\/p>\n

As he rose through the ranks of the army,\u00a0Franco imbibed this poison<\/strong>, reading Tusquet and subscribing to\u00a0antisemitic conspiracy-mongering<\/strong>\u00a0publications such as Acci\u00f3n Espa\u00f1ola and the Geneva-based\u00a0Bulletin de L\u2019Entente Internationale contre la Troisi\u00e8me Internationale<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Once the coup to topple the Republic was launched in July 1936, antisemitic propaganda flourished in areas seized by the Nationalists: one newspaper, for instance, ran a major series on the\u00a0\u201cJewish Beast\u201d<\/strong>, while others\u00a0lavished praise on the Third Reich\u2019s antisemitic laws<\/strong>; Falangist posters displayed\u00a0cartoons from Der St\u00fcrmer<\/strong>; and, from the southern front, the murderous\u00a0General Gonzalo Queipo de Llano<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s daily radio broadcasts lashed \u201cthe race that propagates communism, hoards gold and aspires to subjugate the world<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n

The head of the Catholic Church in Spain, Toledo\u2019s\u00a0Cardinal Isidro Gom\u00e1<\/a><\/strong>, blessed the holy crusade,\u00a0blaming the nation\u2019s ills on \u201cJews and the freemasons who poisoned the nation\u2019s souls with absurd doctrines<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n

Franco meanwhile began to stock the new regime with fellow Jew-haters. Juan Pujol was appointed to run the rebels\u2019 press and propaganda service. Tusquets joined Franco\u2019s staff and was appointed as the liaison between the generalissimo and Cardinal Goma.<\/p>\n

The novelist\u00a0Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Pem\u00e1n<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0was charged with running the Nationalists\u2019 education ministry and set about\u00a0purging the teaching profession of Jews, communists and freemasons<\/strong>. Later, Franco\u2019s brother-in-law,\u00a0Ram\u00f3n Serrano Su\u00f1er<\/a><\/strong>, a Nazi sympathiser and believer in the The Protocols, became minister of the interior and then foreign minister. Another\u00a0key henchman<\/strong>, and future prime minister, Captain\u00a0Luis Carrero Blanco<\/a><\/strong>, acted, writes Preston, as a \u201cconstant spur to Franco\u2019s antisemitism\u201d.<\/p>\n

As he slaughtered his way to victory, Franco repeatedly assailed the Jews.\u00a0The crimes of the \u201cred hordes\u201d, he declared, were inspired by \u201cthe limitless cruelty of an accursed race\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Spain had been torn apart by \u201cJudaizing freemasonry\u201d<\/strong>. And, as he finally took Madrid in May 1939, he spoke of the need to \u201cextinguish \u2026 the Jewish spirit that facilitated the alliance of big capital with Marxism\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, as Preston argues, while the fictional \u201cJewish-Masonic-Bolshevik\u201d conspiracy had been successful in \u201cjustifying and generating enthusiasm for the rebel war effort\u201d, the Nationalists\u2019 triumph did not, in Franco\u2019s eyes, bring to an end \u201cthe need for lies about the Jews\u201d. While he rattled on about\u00a0freeing \u201cthe Fatherland from the Jewish yoke\u201d<\/strong>, his regime allowed its friends in the German Embassy to\u00a0distribute antisemitic leaflets, pamphlets and \u201cfake news\u201d to the Spanish public and press<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The new regime\u2019s racial policy was clear from the outset: Jews (with the exception of those who had proved their \u201cloyalty to the Movimiento Nacional\u201d) and\u00a0those who had a \u201cmarked Jewish character\u201d were to be barred from entering Spain<\/strong>; the identity papers and residence\u00a0permits of Jews were stamped with the word \u201cJud\u00edo\u201d in red ink<\/strong>; and, as late as 1957, police personal dossiers were referring to individuals as dangerous because of their \u201cIsraelite origins\u201d. It was, however, its approach towards Jewish refugees that would rest at the heart of the regime\u2019s post-war defence against charges of antisemitism.<\/p>\n

It is true, Preston argues, that\u00a0\u201ca significant number\u201d of Jews escaped death by entering Spain<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 up to 35,000 are thought to have passed through the country \u2014 during the Second World War. The reality, however, was rather bleaker.<\/p>\n

Jews who arrived illegally and didn\u2019t have onward visas\u00a0were detained in squalid camps s<\/strong>uch as Miranda de Ebro. Others were turned back at the border. And Franco also allowed the Nazis to seize German Jews and return them to the Third Reich.<\/p>\n

Nor did Franco\u2019s government attempt to help Sephardic Jews outside Spain. In June 1941, for instance, Su\u00f1er\u2019s Foreign Ministry reminded its diplomats in Greece and the Balkans that they were not Spanish citizens and should not be given consular protection.\u00a0Su\u00f1er opposed allowing Jewish converts to Catholicism to enter Spain<\/strong>. The press meanwhile often reported\u00a0Nazi persecution of \u201cfoul and diseased\u201d Jews approvingly<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the regime sent orders to civil governors to\u00a0build an archive of all Jews in Spain<\/strong>. This may have been intended\u00a0to assist deportations<\/strong>\u00a0should Franco decide to formally join the war; there are claims Spain\u2019s ambassador to Berlin handed the list to Himmler in 1942.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, as the war began to turn, Franco began to subtly shift gears. When Churchill met the Spanish ambassador in April 1943, Spain was left in no doubt that\u00a0the Allies would look dimly on any failure to assist \u201cpeople seeking safety from the horrors of Nazi domination\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

There was a\u00a0grim irony<\/strong>\u00a0in the fact that it was his belief in\u00a0an all-powerful Jewish conspiracy pulling the strings in London and Washington that led Franco to consider a more lenient stance towards Jewish refugees.<\/strong><\/p>\n

However, even as the Nazis warned Madrid in 1943 that they would end their \u201cspecial treatment\u201d of Spanish Jews living in occupied Europe and begin deporting them,\u00a0Franco dithered about whether to repatriate them<\/strong>. His ministers\u2019 main concern was that\u00a0a failure to do so would \u201crisk an intensification of international hostility against us\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It was decided a small number \u2014 no more than 250 at any one time \u2014 would be allowed to remain, but only\u00a0while they sought visas to leave the country<\/strong>. All the same, Franco still sought to tighten the rules, insisting that\u00a0\u201cunder no circumstances will we allow Jews to settle in Spain\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A year later,\u00a0Franco came under pressure from the UK and US to repatriate Jews of Spanish origin<\/strong>\u00a0threatened by the Holocaust in Hungary. He reluctantly agreed to help a small number. It was the heroic actions of the country\u2019s charges d\u2019affaires in Budapest, \u00c1ngel Sanz Briz, who bent the rules and issued hundreds of passports and letters of protection, that saved the lives of thousands of Jews.<\/p>\n

Other Spanish diplomats in Sofia, Berlin, Bucharest, Paris and Athens\u00a0worked surreptitiously to rescue Jews<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 but their actions were neither instigated nor authorised. That, however, would not stop\u00a0Franco later appropriating their activities to concoct a wholly undeserved record of \u201csympathy and friendship\u201d to Europe\u2019s Jews<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Spain was the first country in Europe to be subverted and destroyed by Jews \u2014 who aided and abetted the Muslim invasion and conquering of Spain circa 700 AD.<\/p>\n

Jews then played a prominent role in\u00a0sharing power with the conquering Muslims during the \u201cConvivencia\u201d<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 the period of Muslim domination of Spain until the native Spanish retook Spain in the Reconquista.<\/p>\n

When the Catholic Church reasserted its power in Spain, the Jews switched gears and pandered to the nobility, becoming indispensable as financing their lavish lifestyles at the expense of the commoners \u2014 in order to get protection and favors from the nobility.<\/p>\n

During the Middle Ages, Jews in Toledo sent out emissaries with orders to\u00a0poison the wells of Christian towns and cities<\/a>\u00a0throughout Europe \u2014 many of whom were caught and confessed.<\/p>\n

And when the Catholic Church demanded that Jews remaining in Spain must convert to Christianity or leave, many converted \u2014 forming the new Jesuit Order \u2014 which had\u00a0so many Jews in it that it was known as a \u201cvirtual synagogue\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But many of these converso Jews, while nominally Christian, remained Jews in their hearts and continued to work to subvert Christian Spain \u2014 notably\u00a0undermining the \u201cpurity of blood\u201d of the \u201cOld Christian\u201d bloodlines<\/a>.<\/p>\n

So much so that one of Franco\u2019s top advisors claimed that over the next 500 years since the Inquisition, Spain had been\u00a0corrupted by these converso Jews inter-marrying into original Ibero-Celtic-Gothic bloodline<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Fast forward to the 20th century \u2014 the Bolshevik Jews who had invaded on conquered Christian Russia set their sights on Franco\u2019s Christian Spain, fomenting a communist takeover under the guise of a \u201ccivil war\u201d \u2014 as Jews from all over the world flooded into Spain to join this Bolshevik revolution.<\/p>\n

The Fascist movements in both Spain and Italy arose in reaction to the horrors of the Bolshevik revoution and takeover of Russia \u2014 essentially as a Christian bulwark against any possible Judeo-communist insurgency \u2014 so unlike Russia, they were prepared to crush any attempts to undermine their nations.<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s exactly what happened \u2014 Franco defeated the Soviet-backed communists and held onto power while remaining \u201cneutral\u201d throughout World War II \u2014 and he was able to do so by suppressing any Jewish-led counter-insurgency.<\/p>\n

The above-cited article mentions the Catalan priest \u2014\u00a0Juan Tusquets Terrats<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 who had written the \u201cantisemitic\u201d book \u201cThe Origins of the Spanish Civil War\u201d \u2014 but fails to mention that Terrats was\u00a0a converso Jew<\/em>\u00a0who knew about the Jewish conspiracy behind the war because, as a former Jew, he was privy to their plans.<\/p>\n

We know from the\u00a0infamous \u201cSimonini Letter\u201d<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 a document leaked among the Jesuits in the Peidmont region between France and Spain \u2014 that the Jews were indeed fomenting a worldwide bolshevik revolution through their Judeo-Masonic-Illuminati networks.<\/p>\n

We also know that, according to Paquita de Shishmareff in her expos\u00e9\u00a0Waters Flowing Eastward<\/em><\/a>, the\u00a0Protocols of the Learned Elders Of Zion<\/a><\/em>\u00a0<\/a>were originally leaked from the\u00a0Mizraim Masonic Lodge in Paris<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What this article also fails to mention is that at the end of World War II,\u00a0Stalin proposed that the Allies invade and depose Franco<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 in retribution for crushing the Soviet-backed Civil War.<\/p>\n

It was this military threat \u2014 along with post-War economic considerations \u2014 that forced Franco to change his tune vis a vis his treatment of Jews in Spain \u2014 proving that the Jewish-Masonic Bolshevik conspiracy as indeed victorious in the war.<\/p>\n

It galled the Jews that Franco was able to remain in power after the war \u2014 largely due to American support of Franco\u2019s anti-communist stance during the Cold War \u2014 which would lead to Spain\u2019s \u201ceconomic miracle\u201d recovery during the 1960s and 1970s.<\/p>\n

But by the time of Franco\u2019s death in the mid-1970s, the Leftist had established power in Spain \u2014 and over the next 5 decades have essentially taken over the nation in\u00a0a soft Bolshevik coup<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 which in recent times we see a firmly entrenched socialist government that is\u00a0flooding the nation with Africans from the Third World<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And it should come as no surprise that the Bolsheviks now in power in Spain have announced\u00a0plans to exhume Franco\u2019s body<\/a>\u00a0from its prominent mausoleum in Madrid \u2014\u00a0a popular tourist destination<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 in order to ensure that the world will eventually forget that Franco ever stood up to and defeated the\u00a0\u201cJewish Masonic Bolshevik\u201d conspiracy<\/a>\u00a0which now rules Spain \u2014 and the rest of western Christendom.<\/p>\n
