Painfully woke white people yanking TV shows off the air and tearing down statues aren\u2019t helping the racial justice cause, according to the founder of Black Entertainment Television. He says black people \u201claugh at\u201d these displays.<\/p>\n
Removing Confederate statues does nothing for black people, billionaire TV magnate Robert Johnson told Fox News on Wednesday. \u201cIt\u2019s not going to give a kid whose parents can\u2019t afford college, money to go to college. It\u2019s not going to close the labor gap\u2026and it\u2019s not going to take people off welfare or food stamps<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n ‘It\u2019s tantamount to rearranging deck chairs on a racial Titanic. It absolutely means nothing.’<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Johnson took a similarly dim view of removing shows like \u201cThe Dukes of Hazzard<\/em>\u201d or films like \u201cGone with\u00a0the Wind<\/em>\u201d from circulation and firing professors for saying \u201call lives matter<\/em>\u201d instead of \u201cblack lives matter<\/em>,\u201d suggesting these moves are \u201can attempt by white Americans to assuage guilt by doing things that make them feel good<\/em>\u201d and don\u2019t help black people at all.<\/p>\n \u201cBlack people laugh at white people who do this<\/em>,\u201d the BET founder said, pointing out that black viewers likely made up a significant portion of the viewing audiences of the canceled shows because \u201cthey watch more TV<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n Calling performative apologetics from white celebrities on social media \u201cthe silliest expression of white privilege that exists in this country<\/em>,\u201d Johnson suggested privileged white people instead ask black people what they want and listen to their responses. \u201cEmbrace being white and do the right thing, and then you don\u2019t have to worry about being sad because you\u2019re white!<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhite Americans seem to think that if they just do sort of emotionally or drastic things that black people are going to say \u2018Oh my god, white people love us because they took down a statue of Stonewall Jackson\u2019<\/em>,\u201d Johnson said before repurposing a famous quote from the now-verboten Gone with the Wind: \u201cFrankly, black people don\u2019t give a damn.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n
