His allegation came after the United States had launched a probe into whether the virus came from a laboratory. According to Montagnier, the &#8220;presence of elements of HIV and germ of\u00a0<a title=\"Malaria\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Malaria\">malaria<\/a>\u00a0in the genome of coronavirus is highly suspect and the characteristics of the virus could not have arisen naturally.&#8221;<sup id=\"cite_ref-49\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Luc_Montagnier#cite_note-49\">[49]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Montagnier&#8217;s conclusions were rejected as hasty by the scientific community, considering the gene sequences are common among similar organisms.<sup id=\"cite_ref-:0_10-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Luc_Montagnier#cite_note-:0-10\">[10]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0There is no evidence that SARS-CoV-2 was genetically engineered.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Frutos_8-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Luc_Montagnier#cite_note-Frutos-8\">[8]<\/a><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-CellReview_50-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Luc_Montagnier#cite_note-CellReview-50\">[50]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>In a 2021 interview with French media group Hold Up, Montagnier claimed that the use of vaccinations for COVID was steering the evolution of new strains and that the process of\u00a0<a title=\"Antibody-dependent enhancement\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Antibody-dependent_enhancement\">antibody-dependent enhancement<\/a>\u00a0(ADE) would cause vaccinated individuals to suffer more strongly.
