The closure of\u00a0Los Angeles<\/a>\u00a0beaches<\/a>\u00a0over July 4 weekend was ordered by county officials Monday \u201cto prevent dangerous crowding,\u201d as confirmed cases of COVID-19 continue to rise.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The county\u2019s public health department said in a\u00a0statement<\/a>\u00a0that beaches will be off limits to the public from July 3 through July 6 at 5 a.m. to prevent the transmission of \u201cdeadly COVID-19,\u201d the disease caused by the\u00a0CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Fireworks displays in the county will also be prohibited over the July 4th holiday weekend, the department announced.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the holiday weekend, beaches will be totally closed to all recreational activities. Beach parking lots will be closed as well,\u201d the\u00a0statement<\/a>\u00a0read.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The news came as LA county reported more than 2,900 additional cases of the CCP virus on Monday, marking \u201cthe single largest one-day case count since the pandemic began,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n

\u201cData show increases in people testing positive for the virus and increases in hospitalizations as a result,\u201d it said. \u201cProjections by the Department of Health Services show a marked increase in hospitalizations in the coming weeks, which could cause a surge in our healthcare system.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Barbara Ferrer, the county\u2019s director of public health, said in a statement that closing the beaches and\u00a0prohibiting fireworks displays during such an \u201cimportant\u201d summer holiday was an \u201cincredibly difficult decision to make.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cBut it\u2019s the responsible decision to protect public health and protect our residents from a deadly virus,\u201d Ferrer said. \u201cThe Fourth of July holiday weekend typically means large crowds and gatherings to celebrate, a recipe for increased transmission of COVID-19.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In other parts of California state meanwhile, Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered the closure of bars in counties that have seen a surge in cases of COVID-19.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Sunday, Newsom said seven counties must close their bars. He also recommended that eight other counties in the most populous U.S. state close their bars, as he urged Californians to \u201cremain vigilant\u201d against the virus.<\/p>\n

\u201cDue to the rising spread of #COVID19, CA is ordering bars to close in Fresno, Imperial, Kern, Kings, Los Angeles, San Joaquin, and Tulare, while recommending they close in Contra Costa, Riverside, Sacramento, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Stanislaus, & Ventura,\u201d Newsom\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0on Twitter.<\/p>\n

\u201cCOVID-19 is still circulating in California, and in some parts of the state, growing stronger,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>he said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why it is critical we take this step.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Los Angeles County remains the epicenter of the outbreak in the state\u2014making up roughly more than half of new transmissions in California.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0Fox News<\/a>, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva has said he will not be enforcing the order to shut beaches over the holiday weekend, saying that he had not been consulted prior to the announcement.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were not consulted on the beach closure, and will only assist our beach cities in closing parking lots and traffic enforcement on PCH,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>Villanueva told Fox 11.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn regards to enforcing the beach closure, we will not be enforcing it because we are \u2018Care First, Jail Last.’\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
