Beach parking lots will be closed as well,\u201d the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/publichealth.lacounty.gov\/phcommon\/public\/media\/mediapubhpdetail.cfm?prid=2473\">statement<\/a>\u00a0read.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The news came as LA county reported more than 2,900 additional cases of the CCP virus on Monday, marking \u201cthe single largest one-day case count since the pandemic began,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cData show increases in people testing positive for the virus and increases in hospitalizations as a result,\u201d it said. \u201cProjections by the Department of Health Services show a marked increase in hospitalizations in the coming weeks, which could cause a surge in our healthcare system.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Barbara Ferrer, the county\u2019s director of public health, said in a statement that closing the beaches and\u00a0<strong>prohibiting fireworks displays during such an \u201cimportant\u201d summer holiday was an \u201cincredibly difficult decision to make.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cBut it\u2019s the responsible decision to protect public health and protect our residents from a deadly virus,\u201d Ferrer said. \u201cThe Fourth of July holiday weekend typically means large crowds and gatherings to celebrate, a recipe for increased transmission of COVID-19.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In other parts of California state meanwhile, Gov.
