Devin Nunes Says FISA Court Did \u2018Absolutely Nothing\u2019 When He Warned of FBI Abuse Last Year<\/h1>\n

House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Devin Nunes (R-CA) said Tuesday evening that he warned the court granting Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants to the FBI on a former Trump campaign aide of problems with the FBI\u2019s warrant applications twice last year but that the court did \u201cabsolutely nothing\u201d about it.<\/h3>\n

Nunes said he first warned the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) in February 2018 of \u201cvery serious matters\u201d based on a memo House Republicans wrote outlining issues with the FBI\u2019s use of FISA to get a warrant on former Trump campaign aide Carter Page.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey did nothing about it,\u201d he told Fox News\u2019s Martha McCallum.<\/p>\n

Nunes\u2019s remarks come a day after the FISC\u00a0issued<\/a>\u00a0an order condemning the FBI for its \u201cmisconduct\u201d related to its warrant applications on Page and accusing the FBI of not meeting its \u201cheightened duty of candor\u201d in its applications.<\/p>\n

Nunes said he also told the court when they found out that \u201cSource Two\u201d \u2014 a source other than the \u201cpee dossier\u201d and news stories used to get warrants to surveil Page \u2014 had begun spying on the Trump campaign before the FBI got the warrant and provided exculpatory evidence for Page and another former Trump campaign aide, George Papadopoulos.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThis is evidence [the FBI] should have put forward on both Page and Papadopoulos, and I think Papadopoulos is really key because he\u2019s the reason that they started the entire investigation and he denied it clearly. So at that point, when you have a full-blown [counterintelligence] investigation going on, you should do something,\u201d Nunes said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe court knew about all of this, so I\u2019m not saying that. I\u2019m glad they\u2019ve acted. I\u2019m glad they\u2019ve said something, but I think the court \u2026 has to be ended,\u201d he said. \u201cThe way the courts conducted themselves is totally inappropriate \u2014 they ignored clear evidence that we presented to them. \u2026 They did absolutely nothing about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the FISC has left Congress \u201cno choice\u201d but to step in and fix the FISA process.<\/p>\n
