In an appalling revelation, the Pentagon on Friday\u00a0admitted\u00a0<\/a>Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was hospitalized at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Monday for four days following complications from elective surgery.<\/p>\n

Secretary Austin, 70, spent four days in the ICU (intensive care unit) and his deputy had to take over his duties, according to NBC News.<\/p>\n

The Pentagon still refuses to reveal details of Lloyd Austin\u2019s health scare. It is unclear what the elective procedure was.<\/p>\n

Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks \u2013 who was on leave and on vacation in Puerto Rico (and possibly boozing) \u2013 had to take over Lloyd Austin\u2019s duties.<\/p>\n

Hicks \u201chas maintained full communication with the DOD staff throughout,\u201d the official said, according to\u00a0NBC News<\/a>. \u201cShe has monitored DOD\u2019s day-to-day operations and conducted some routine business.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lloyd Austin on Saturday\u00a0released a statement<\/a>\u00a0on his secret hospitalization and did not explain his failure to inform Joe Biden or Congress about his hospitalization.<\/p>\n

According to CNN, the Deputy Secretary of Defense didn\u2019t even know Lloyd Austin was hospitalized when she assumed his duties.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the deputy secretary of defense began assuming some of Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin\u2019s responsibilities on January 2, not even she knew that it was because Austin was hospitalized, two defense officials told CNN.\u201d \u2013 CNN\u00a0reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Hicks,] who was on vacation in Puerto Rico at the time, was not informed of Austin\u2019s hospitalization until the afternoon of January 4, the defense officials said.\u201d the outlet reported.<\/p>\n
