{"id":207651,"date":"2024-01-28T13:34:30","date_gmt":"2024-01-28T17:34:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=207651"},"modified":"2024-01-28T13:35:12","modified_gmt":"2024-01-28T17:35:12","slug":"did-warning-of-foreign-interlopers-fall-on-deaf-ears","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=207651","title":{"rendered":"<h2><b><i>Did The Warning Of Foreign Interlopers Fall On Deaf Ears?<\/i><\/b><\/h2>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more-->Renee Parsons<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">For the last umpteenth weeks, House Republicans have been insistent about the need to address the crisis of 4-5000 illegals a day at the border prior to any budgetary commitments.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The Uniparty wing however continues to resist unless more billions of dollars would be designated for the war in Ukraine and Israel and Taiwan.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The hierarchy missed the memo that the Ukraine war has been kaput for several months with the Zelensky government in the final throes of a pitiful defeat<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>&#8211; but that has not stopped the Forever War lovers. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Led by State Department Nuland neocon club who refuse to accept that war with Russia as a long sought hallucination is never going to occur \u2013 still the warmongers will not budge.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>With Senate leadership locked in a wrestling match to create a bipartisan border \u201ccompromise\u201d that includes a $110 billion fund<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>including $14 billion for border security, there is no draft for Senators to review, hence no possible approval. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Biden claims the new bipartisan deal would provide new \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/immigration\/biden-promises-shut-border-authority-bipartisan-bill-rcna135980\"><span class=\"s2\">presidential authority\u2019<\/span><\/a> and enable him to \u2018<i>shut down the border\u2019<\/i> when it is \u201c<i>overwhelmed<\/i>\u201d which begs the question:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>when do Democrats believe the border is ever overwhelmed?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Republican dilemma is the same as it has been for the last decade with a lack of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?533134-1\/senate-republican-agenda\"><span class=\"s2\">true leadership<\/span><\/a> rather than old fossils who remain wedded to outdated solutions in control of the agenda\u2013 like more war to stimulate the economy. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Just as the State of Texas Republicans have a history of acquiescing to the more dominant Democrats who have usurped control the state legislature.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Yet of the utmost urgency, a list of bipartisan Congressional leaders were in receipt of an <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BigFish3000\/status\/1750617779357798779\/photo\/1\"><span class=\"s2\">alarming letter<\/span><\/a> on January 17<\/span><span class=\"s3\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>signed by ten retired FBI Intel and Criminal Administrators.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The subject of the letter predicted the US was \u201c<i>facing a new and imminent danger\u2019<\/i> identified as one of the \u201c<i>most pernicious ever to menace the US<\/i>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Each signatoree identified themselves with \u201c<i>deep experience combatting dangers to the nation\u201d<\/i> therefore negating any dismissal as being conspiracy hacks.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The frightening letter went on to spell out their imminent concerns regarding the number of military aged men from hostile nations crossing the border illegally as \u2018<i>difficult to overstate the danger\u2019<\/i> of \u2018<i>who could<\/i> <i>begin attacking gatherings of unarmed citizens must be considered a <\/i><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><i>distinct possibility<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><i>.\u2019<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The letter was addressed to Speaker Johnson, Senate Majority leader Schumer, Senate Minority Leader McConnell as well as Chairs of the House\/Senate Intel and Homeland Security Committees leaving open whether any of those recipients responded in any way. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Even Gov. Abbott, who has been less of an immigration hawk, has now recognized the inherent undeniable threat of thousands of draft aged young men streaming across the board\u2026for what obscure purpose?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Presumably contents of the letter was distributed to Members of Congress, many of whom would have found the warnings extremely worrisome, if not in downright panic mode\u2026The question is how did the message of that letter affect the on going border-budget negotiations with regard to a crisis decision and implementing those discussions front and center for immediate action.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Why wouldn\u2019t contents in the letter increase agitation to immediately identify and implement a<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>border strategy? <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">To date, it appears the letter has been deep-sixed and not yet aroused enough urgent concern among the recipients to pursue an adequate response to the warning \u2013 instead<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>the recipients have preferred to squabble about the next round of budget CRs while debating the quid pro quo of more money to Ukraine as their top priority. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">At the same time as negotiations were being grappled with, it appears that nothing significantly changed when a group of Senators excluded from the meetings held a press conference to alert the public that as the border numbers continued to dramatically increase, agreement on the unseen draft document <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/01\/23\/politics\/senate-republican-lunch-border-talks\/index.html\"><span class=\"s2\">appeared stalled<\/span><\/a>. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Republican Senators Scott (Fl.), Lee (Utah), Cruz, (Tex.), Marshall (Kansas), Braun (Ind.), Johnson (Wisc) and Schmitt(Mo.) added <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?533160-1\/senator-rick-scott-holds-news-conference-border-security-legislation\"><span class=\"s2\">voices of reality<\/span><\/a> that any proposal remains inchoate and that the Biden administration needed no new legislation to take control of the border. Those not included in the intimate leadership negotiations are a fussy bunch; they need to see the numbers before they commit. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Sen. Schumer, who has led the country into more military catastrophes in the decades since 2011,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>stated that the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/trainwreck-conservative-gop-senators-break-004108227.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall&amp;guccounter=1\"><span class=\"s2\">argument<\/span><\/a> was \u201c<i>one of the hardest things the Senate has undertaken<\/i>\u201d which is factually incorrect given the current Constitutional crisis with Texas is in the nature of uncharted waters asserting its state\u2019s right to stop illegal immigration through its borders.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The choice, therefore, would seem a natural for those who understand Rule of Law priorities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) <a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/ted-cruz-says-theres-no-153701221.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall\"><span class=\"s2\">suggested<\/span><\/a> there was \u201c<i>no need for a new border bill but to mimic Trump policies would be sufficient.<\/i>\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Tesla CEO Elon Musk visited Eagle Pass for an \u2018<i>unfiltered view,\u2019<\/i> supporting a Trump-style wall and citing that the immigration numbers were of \u201c<i>such magnitude leading to a collapse of social services.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>***<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On January 22<\/span><span class=\"s3\"><sup>nd<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\">, the Supreme Court responded to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rga.org\/republican-governors-ban-together-issue-joint-statement-supporting-texas-constitutional-right-self-defense\/https:\/www.rga.org\/republican-governors-ban-together-issue-joint-statement-supporting-texas-constitutional-right-self-defense\/\"><span class=\"s2\">brief filed<\/span><\/a> by State of Texas with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2024\/01\/13\/henry-cuellar-texas-border-eagle-pass\/\"><span class=\"s2\">cease and desist order<\/span><\/a> to Attorney General Ken Paxton.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The Court ordered Texas to stop blocking federal agents from access to the 47 acre Shelby Park at Eagle Pass.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The 5 &#8211; 4 decision, with no written writ by the Justices,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>allowed Federal agents to remove the <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/supreme-court-sides-biden-administration-texas-border-dispute\/story?id=106575343\"><span class=\"s2\">razor wire fencing<\/span><\/a> installed by the State to prohibit illegal immigrant access. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Gov. Abbott\u2019s response \u201c<i>this is not over<\/i>\u201d when he proceeded to issue a formidable <a href=\"https:\/\/gov.texas.gov\/uploads\/files\/press\/Border_Statement_1.24.2024.pdf\"><span class=\"s2\">Texas\u2019 Constitutional Right<\/span><\/a> to Self Defense statement citing Articles I and IV, both of which reserve the state\u2019s right to \u2018self defense.\u2019 <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Twenty five State Governors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rga.org\/republican-governors-ban-together-issue-joint-statement-supporting-texas-constitutional-right-self-defense\/https:\/www.rga.org\/republican-governors-ban-together-issue-joint-statement-supporting-texas-constitutional-right-self-defense\/\"><span class=\"s2\">endorsed<\/span><\/a> the State of Texas in its border control conflict with the Federal government with some providing their own National Guard\/law enforcement support.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">With the entire country now in<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>commotion as Texas awaits the government\u2019s next move and refuses to accede to the Federal government, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/5d9adk\/trucker-convoy-eagle-pass-texas-border-dispute-christian-nationalism\"><span class=\"s2\">national convoy<\/span><\/a> of truckers are headed for the Texas border and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/world-nation\/story\/2023-12-18\/arizona-border-militias-extremism-mainstream-immigration\"><span class=\"s2\">militia movement<\/span><\/a> members are planning to participate, the Democrats are urging Biden to establish \u2018<i>sole Federal control\u2019<\/i> over the Texas National Guard which may bring the crisis to a point of no return as Abbott continues to pledge he is \u201c<i>prepared for conflict<\/i>\u201d with the Federal government.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On January 26<\/span><span class=\"s3\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\">, pretend President Joe Biden responded with a vague statement<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>that offered no real understanding of the dramatic potential consequences of a Constitutional confrontation with Texas as much of the country holds its breathe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mail.google.com\/mail\/u\/0\/#inbox\/FMfcgzGwJvgZvXvLkfNXBZxwVwSfQCpg\">House Judiciary hearing<\/a><\/span><span class=\"s1\"> Tuesday, January 30<\/span><span class=\"s3\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cThe Southern Border Crisis: the Constitution and the States\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s5\"><i>Renee Parsons\u00a0served on the ACLU\u2019s Florida State Board of Directors and as president of the ACLU Treasure Coast Chapter.
