including several GOP leaders, President Trump and\u00a0 others have\u00a0<strong>urged Attorney General William Barr to investigate Gardner &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>while Missouri Gov. Mike Parson (R) said in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/f2628f500ee310d289407f6b5753c314\">Friday radio interview<\/a>\u00a0that he would likely pardon the McCloskeys if they were charged and convicted.<\/p>\n<p>Gardner responded by suggesting that Trump and other McCloskey defenders are attacking her to distract from &#8220;their failed approach to the COVID-19 pandemic&#8221; along with other issues, per\u00a0<em>Politico<\/em>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\" data-content-child-index=\"0-6\">St. Louis, like many cities across the country, has seen demonstrations in the weeks since George Floyd\u2019s death in Minneapolis, and<strong>\u00a0the McCloskeys\u2019 home was initially incidental to the demonstration on June 28<\/strong>.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/def4fbb664edeac24746cc7af0c5c555\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Several hundred people<\/a>\u00a0were marching to the home of Democratic Mayor Lyda Krewson, a few blocks from the McCloskeys\u2019 home. Krewson had angered activists by reading on Facebook Live the names and addresses of some who had called for defunding police.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\" data-content-child-index=\"0-7\"><strong>The McCloskeys live on a private street called Portland Place.<\/strong>\u00a0A police report said the couple heard a loud commotion and saw a large group of people break an iron gate marked with \u201cNo Trespassing\u201d and \u201cPrivate Street\u201d signs. A protest leader, the Rev. Darryl Gray, said the gate was open and that protesters didn\u2019t damage it. &#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/07\/20\/st-louis-couple-charged-guns-373517\"><em>Politico<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\" data-content-child-index=\"0-7\">The McCloskeys have repeatedly said they were\u00a0<strong>defending themselves<\/strong>\u00a0as tensions have flared during\u00a0<strong>destructive and violent BLM riots\u00a0<\/strong>across the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\" data-content-child-index=\"0-7\">Less than two weeks ago, St. Louis authorities\u00a0<strong>raided the McCloskey residence<\/strong>, confiscating the AR-15 used by Mark McCloskey.
