A transgender woman in Oregon has launched a lawsuit against Miss USA pageants after they refused to accept him as a contestant.<\/strong><\/p>\n Filed on Tuesday, the lawsuit argues the pageant discriminated against 29-year-old Anita Green when it refused to allow him to compete in the Miss Oregon beauty contest.<\/p>\n The pageant rejected Green citing a rule requiring participants be \u201cnatural born females.\u201d<\/p>\n A Facebook Messenger conversation between Green and the Miss USA Oregon pageant director, obtained by the\u00a0Willamette Week<\/a><\/em>, captured the moment Green accused the pageant of discrimination.<\/p>\n According to Facebook messages acquired by\u00a0WW, Green\u2014who works for a video game company\u2014reached out to Smith, asking for more information about the pageant. Smith sent a link with the pageant rules, and after reading them, Green responded, \u201cYou know I\u2019m transgender, right?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cI did not,\u201d Smith wrote back. \u201cOur rules and regulations allow same-sex marriage, however this is a natural pageant.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Smith then offered to help Green find another pageant. Green asked if Smith would \u201cbe willing to change the rules to allow transgender women to compete.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cAgain,\u201d Smith wrote, \u201cwe would be happy to help you find a pageant that you qualify for, however at this time we do not anticipate the rules changing.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cWell,\u201d Green responded, \u201cI\u2019ll talk to my attorney about this then because discrimination is unacceptable. This is clearly discrimination.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cI am sorry that you feel that way,\u201d Smith replied and ended the conversation. Smith declined WW\u2019s request for comment on the exchange.<\/em><\/p>\n The rules on the pageant\u2019s website prohibit contestants who have \u201cposed nude in film or print media,\u201d and state the contest is limited to \u201cnatural born females.\u201d<\/p>\n The suit claims that since the pageant is open to the public, the contest\u2019s rejection is similar to a business not wanting to serve Green.<\/p>\n Green also claims his lawsuit is about wanting to give women a voice.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is about giving minorities a voice,\u201d he said according to the\u00a0Willamette Week<\/em>. \u201cI believe I\u2019m beautiful, and I want to set an example for all women\u2014cisgender and transgender\u2014that beauty doesn\u2019t have to fit into specific molds.\u201d<\/p>\n Green added the pageant\u2019s rejection made him feel \u201cas though I was being invalidated. I felt as though the organization was saying I am not a woman and I\u2019m not woman enough.\u201d<\/p>\n
