… Public Health England has published a\u00a0paper titled “<\/a>Excess Weight and COVID-19\u00a0 Insights from new evidence<\/em><\/a>“, indicating that the risks of hospitalization, intensive care treatment and death increase progressively with increasing body mass index (BMI) above the healthy weight range even after adjustment for potential confounding factors, including demographic and socioeconomic factors. In other words, the fatter one is, the higher the risk that person may die from covid.<\/p>\n Some more details: according to the Public Health England paper, the hazard ratios of ICU admission patients who are overweight (BMI \u226525-29.9), obese (BMI \u226530-34.9) or severely obese (BMI \u226535) are 1.64, 2.59 and 4.35, respectively\u00a0 see figure below) relative to patients with a BMI of \u226520-24.9.<\/p>\n The study also showed\u00a0an increasing risk of death with increasing BMI with hazard ratios of 1.05, 1.40 and 1.92 for people with a BMI of 30-34, 35-39.9 and \u226540,\u00a0<\/strong>respectively, relative to BMI <30. In a nutshell, people who are severely obese are twice as likely to die from Covid.<\/p>\n Which, in a world where facts could be discussed instead of dismissed and slammed as “racist”, would mean that certain races and genders are especially at risk.
