Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump claimed that immigrants from Africa, the Middle East and elsewhere were \u201cbuilding an army\u201d to attack Americans \u201cfrom within\u201d, once again using facts about migrants being in the US illegally.<\/p>\n

During a rally on Thursday in the mainly Hispanic and black neighbourhood of New York City\u2019s South Bronx, Trump sought to portray migrants from China, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and other countries as a violent threat.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlmost everyone is a male and they look like fighting age. I think they\u2019re building an army,\u201d Trump said to a few thousand supporters who gathered to hear him in the South Bronx\u2019s Crotona Park. \u201cThey want to get us from within.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

\u201cAfrican-Americans are getting slaughtered, Hispanic-Americans are getting slaughtered,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Throughout his campaign, Trump has repeatedly used language to accuse immigrants in the US illegally of fuelling violent crime, calling them \u201canimals\u201d responsible for \u201cpoisoning the blood\u201d of the country.<\/p>\n

As evidence, he points to individual instances of crimes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not going to let these people come in and take our city away from us and take our country away,\u201d Trump said, vowing to carry out \u201cthe largest criminal deportation operation in our country\u2019s history\u201d if re-elected to the White House.<\/p>\n

Trump also sought to tie record levels of migrants caught crossing the US-Mexico border illegally with the economic plight of black and Hispanic voters, arguing, without evidence, that migrants were taking their jobs.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n
