Exposing The CIA’s Secret Effort To Seize Control Of Social Media<\/h1>\n

While the CIA is strictly prohibited from spying on or running clandestine operations against American citizens on US soil, a bombshell new “Twitter Files” report reveals that\u00a0a member of the Board of Trustees of InQtel<\/strong>\u00a0– the CIA’s mission-driving venture capital firm, along with\u00a0“former” intelligence community (IC) and CIA analysts,\u00a0<\/strong>were involved in a massive effort in 2021-2022\u00a0to take over Twitter’s content management system<\/strong>, as Michael Shellenberger, Matt Taibbi and Alex Gutentag report over at Shellenberger’s\u00a0Public<\/em>\u00a0(subscribers can check out the extensive 6,800 word report\u00a0here<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n

According to “thousands of pages of Twitter Files and documents,”\u00a0these efforts were part of a broader strategy to manage how information is disseminated and consumed on social media\u00a0<\/strong>under the guise of combating ‘misinformation’ and foreign propaganda efforts – as this complex of government-linked individuals and organizations has gone to great lengths to suggest that narrative control is a national security issue.<\/p>\n

According to the report, the effort also involved;<\/p>\n

    \n
  • a long-time IC contractor and senior Department of Defense R&D official\u00a0<\/strong>who spent years developing technologies to detect whistleblowers (\u201cinsider threats\u201d) like Edward Snowden and Wikileaks\u2019 leakers;<\/li>\n
  • the proposed head of the DHS\u2019 aborted Disinformation Governance Board,\u00a0Nina Jankowicz<\/strong>, who aided US military and NATO \u201chybrid war\u201d operations in Europe;<\/li>\n
  • Jim Baker<\/strong>, who, as FBI General Counsel, helped start the Russiagate hoax, and, as Twitter\u2019s Deputy General Counsel,\u00a0urged<\/a>\u00a0Twitter executives to censor The New York Post story about Hunter Biden.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Jankowicz (aka ‘Scary Poppins’), previously tipped to lead the DHS\u2019s now-aborted Disinformation Governance Board, has been a vocal advocate for more stringent regulation of online speech to counteract ‘rampant disinformation.’\u00a0Jim Baker<\/strong>, in his capacity as FBI General Counsel and later as Twitter\u2019s Deputy General Counsel,\u00a0advocated for and implemented policies that would restrict certain types of speech on the platform<\/strong>, including decisions that affected the visibility of politically sensitive content.<\/p>\n

    Furthermore, companies like\u00a0PayPal, Amazon Web Services, and GoDaddy\u00a0<\/strong>were mentioned as\u00a0part of a concerted effort to de-platform and financially de-incentivize individuals and organizations deemed threats by the IC<\/strong>. This approach represents a significant escalation in the use of corporate cooperation to achieve what might essentially be considered censorship under the guise of national security.<\/p>\n

    Nina Jankowicz And The Alethea Group<\/h3>\n

    Remember Nina? A\u00a0huge fan<\/a>\u00a0of Christopher Steele – architect of the infamous Clinton-funded Dossier which underpinned the Trump-Russia hoax, and\u00a0who joined the\u00a0chorus of disinformation<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0agents that downplayed the Hunter Biden laptop bombshell, Jankowicz previously served as a disinformation fellow at the Wilson Center,\u00a0and advised the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry<\/strong>\u00a0as part of the Fulbright-Clinton Public Policy Fellowship. She also oversaw the Russia and Belarus programs at the National Democratic Institute.<\/p>\n

    Jankowicz compares the lack of regulation of speech on social media to the lack of government regulation of automobiles in the 1960s.<\/strong>\u00a0She calls for a \u201ccross-platform\u201d and public-private approach, so whatever actions are taken are taken by Google, Facebook, and Twitter, simultaneously.<\/em><\/p>\n

    Jankowicz points to Europe as the model for regulating speech.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cGermany\u2019s NetzDG law requires social media companies and other content hosts to remove \u2018obviously illegal\u2019 speech within twenty-four hours,\u201d she says, \u201cor face a fine of up to $50 million.<\/strong>\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

    By contrast, in the US, she laments, \u201cCongress has yet to pass a bill imposing even the most basic of regulations related to social media and election advertising.\u201d -Public<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    In a 2020 book,\u00a0How to Lose the Information War: Russia, Fake News, and the Future of Conflict,\u00a0<\/em>Jankowicz praises a NATO cyber security expert for having created a “Center of Excellence,” a concept\u00a0promoted<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0Ren\u00e9e Diresta of the Stanford Internet Observatory, in which she made the case for the\u00a0(now failed) Disinformation Governance Board\u00a0<\/strong>that Jankowicz would briefly head up.<\/p>\n

    One year later, Jankowicz began working with ‘anti-disinformation’ consulting firm, Althea Group<\/strong>, staffed by “former” IC analysts.<\/p>\n

    Althea notably<\/strong>\u00a0came after\u00a0ZeroHedge<\/em>\u00a0at one point<\/strong>, shopping a ‘dossier’ around which suggested we were allegedly contributing to “increased online panic” amid the monumental collapse of Silicon Valley Bank.<\/p>\n

    The outlets they peddled said dossier to included\u00a0Bloomberg<\/em>\u00a0– which elected to\u00a0exclude\u00a0ZeroHedge<\/em>\u00a0from their report<\/a>\u00a0following a brief email exchange. Eventually, one of their\u00a0operatives<\/a>\u00a0dropped the dossier on Twitter, only to be mocked as a propagandist.<\/p>\n
