{"id":23325,"date":"2020-08-04T10:46:44","date_gmt":"2020-08-04T14:46:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=23325"},"modified":"2020-08-04T10:50:48","modified_gmt":"2020-08-04T14:50:48","slug":"watch-this-purposefully-deceitful-cnn-anchor-use-the-yale-epidemiologist-words-he-never-spoke-to-disparage-hcq","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=23325","title":{"rendered":"Watch this purposefully deceitful CNN anchor use the Yale epidemiologist words he never spoke to disparage HCQ."},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>&#8216;Don\u2019t speak for me&#8217;: Yale doctor battles CNN anchor over effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine<\/h1>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Trump has hailed polarizing drug as possible COVID treatment<\/h3>\n<p>By Brian Flood | Fox News<\/p>\n<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/video.foxnews.com\/v\/embed.js?id=6177719865001&#038;w=466&#038;h=263\"><\/script><noscript>Watch the latest video at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\">foxnews.com<\/a><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Yale epidemiology professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/cnn-anchor-keilar-ludicrous-claim-hydroxychloroquine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr.\u00a0Harvey Risch<\/a>\u00a0and CNN host John Berman bickered over\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/morning-joe-trump-financial-ties-hydroxychloroquine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hydroxychloroquine<\/a> on Monday\u00a0during a heated\u00a0discussion\u00a0about\u00a0the polarizing drug, which the president has\u00a0hailed as a possible treatment for COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Risch recently wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/key-defeating-covid-19-already-exists-we-need-start-using-it-opinion-1519535\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">an op-ed in support of\u00a0hydroxychloroquine<\/a>, but Dr. Anthony Fauci,\u00a0Dr. Deborah\u00a0Birx\u00a0and other\u00a0experts have dismissed the\u00a0anti-malarial drug being used to\u00a0combat\u00a0coronavirus.\u00a0Risch cited various studies that backed up his pro-hydroxychloroquine stance, but the host of CNN&#8217;s &#8220;New Day&#8221;\u00a0disagreed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNone of those studies that you just cited are random\u00a0placebo-controlled\u00a0trials, what Dr. Fauci refers to as the gold standard,\u201d\u00a0Berman said, as the CNN on-screen chyron\u00a0stated\u00a0\u201cGrowing body of evidence shows\u00a0hydroxychloroquine\u00a0is ineffective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Risch responded: \u201cThat\u2019s not actually correct.\u00a0The problem with those randomized controlled trials, is they were trials done on the wrong people. They were trials done on low-risk people with low risks of hospitalization and mortality. You don\u2019t do a study of prostate cancer\u00a0with women&#8230; because nobody is\u00a0gonna\u00a0get the outcome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Risch said the studies were conducted on \u201cvery low-risk people who are not going to get hospitalized or die\u201d from coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t treat those people. We treat high-risk people,\u201d\u00a0Risch said.<\/p>\n<p>Berman then accused Risch of being inconsistent compared to\u00a0the op-ed, but the Yale epidemiologist disagreed\u00a0and the interview grew\u00a0contentious.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re misstating what I said, I said it had to be in high-risk people,\u201d Risch said. \u201cAs I\u2019ve said, you have to treat the right people. You\u00a0have to\u00a0study the right people. Those studies did not study the right people, period. That\u2019s the bottom line.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Berman insisted the\u00a0studies have included a wide range of participants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAgain, the question is,\u201d\u00a0a frustrated\u00a0Berman continued,\u00a0\u201cWhy haven\u2019t any random,\u00a0placebo-controlled\u00a0trials showed benefit? Isn\u2019t that a problem for an\u00a0epidemiologist?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo,\u201d Risch shot back. \u201cIn fact, the FDA has a huge history of drugs going into widespread use in the medical community for decades that have not been established in\u00a0the\u00a0basis of\u00a0randomized\u00a0controlled trials.\u00a0Half of the chemotherapy drugs used in cancer were used without randomized controlled trials.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CNN\u2019s on-screen graphic, which has grown notoriously snarky, sided with Berman, who continued to disagree with\u00a0Risch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYale epidemiologist insists, against evidence, hydroxychloroquine works,\u201d the chyron said.<\/p>\n<p>The two continued to argue over the importance of randomized controlled trials, with the CNN host dismissing Risch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRandomized, placebo-controlled trials, which Dr. Fauci does refer to as the gold standard, are so useful and I know you know that,\u201d\u00a0Berman said at one point.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t speak for me,\u201d Risch said as\u00a0Berman spoke over him.<\/p>\n<p>When\u00a0Risch\u00a0was allowed to\u00a0respond, he told Berman that he made \u201cthree or four wrong statements\u201d during the segment\u00a0and the two continued to bicker over the details of the trials\u00a0\u2013 some of which Berman\u00a0considers to be\u00a0\u201csketchy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNone of them are sketchy,\u201d\u00a0Risch said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-media twitter\">\n<div class=\"tweet-embed\">\n<div class=\"twitter-tweet twitter-tweet-rendered\"><iframe id=\"twitter-widget-0\" class=\"\" title=\"Twitter Tweet\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/embed\/index.html?dnt=false&amp;embedId=twitter-widget-0&amp;frame=false&amp;hideCard=false&amp;hideThread=false&amp;id=1290256583361015809&amp;lang=en&amp;origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.foxnews.com%2Fmedia%2Frisch-cnn-anchor-berman-hydroxychloroquine&amp;siteScreenName=foxnews&amp;theme=light&amp;widgetsVersion=223fc1c4%3A1596143124634&amp;width=550px\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-tweet-id=\"1290256583361015809\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Grabien\u00a0Media founder Tom Elliot mocked Berman following the interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat CNN&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JohnBerman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@JohnBerman<\/a>&#8216;s doing now w\/ a Yale prof who\u2019s written on hydroxychloroquine\u2019s benefits for\u00a0Covid\u00a0is not reporting, nor journalism.
