New York AG Letitia James’ office has filed a lawsuit against the NRA<\/h3>\n

The\u00a0New York<\/a>\u00a0attorney general<\/a>\u00a0is \u201cone of the most partisan figures,\u201d said Fox News contributor Ari Fleischer on Thursday, as he criticized\u00a0Letitia James<\/a>‘ move to try to dissolve the National Rifle Association.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is how an office gets politicized. On the merits of this, there are always two sides to a lawsuit. Let\u2019s see what the NRA says to defend themselves here, I don\u2019t know the facts, but on the politics of it, this is one of the dumbest biggest mistakes an attorney general or anyone can make on an election year,\u201d the former George W. Bush White House press secretary\u00a0told \u201cOutnumbered Overtime<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fleischer said that\u00a0James\u00a0ran an election campaign on an \u201canti-President Trump, anti-Republican and anti-conservative platform.”<\/p>\n

James<\/a>\u00a0announced Thursday that her office\u00a0has filed a lawsuit against the NRA\u00a0and its leadership, including executive vice president Wayne LaPierre, looking to dissolve the organization. James accused the organization of having “a culture of self-dealing,” taking millions of dollars for personal use and granting contracts that benefited leaders’ family and associates.<\/p>\n

“For nearly three decades, Wayne LaPierre has served as the chief executive officer of the NRA and has exploited the organization for his financial benefit, and the benefit of a close circle of NRA staff, board members, and vendors,\u201d the 163-page complaint states.<\/p>\n

The Washington, D.C. attorney general’s office also sued the NRA on Thursday based on similar allegations.<\/p>\n

Fleischer said that the move by James is a \u201cmistake during an election year\u201d because it will \u201cenergize gun owners across the country as if they are not energized already.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you think there is a threat to your Second Amendment rights before, wait until the Democrats now try to get rid of the organization that represents gun owners,\u201d Fleischer said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis, politically, is going to backfire on the Democrats and then of course, as a suit, it\u2019ll play out over years, not weeks. But the politics are playing out immediately,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
