Vance has his own controversies, his close connection to billionaire Peter Thiel, who is poised to have unprecedented influence in a new Trump administration, should deeply unsettle every American who cares about freedom, privacy and reining in the surveillance state.<\/h3>\n<p>BY WHITNEY WEBB<br \/>\nUnlimited Hangout<\/p>\n<p>After the recent revelation that Donald Trump had selected J.D. Vance as his Vice President, public attention not only turned toward Vance, but also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/money\/companies\/peter-thiel-plays-kingmaker-again-as-trump-picks-jd-vance-for-veep\/ar-BB1q4PEE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">to the billionaire Peter Thiel<\/a>. Vance has been one of several prominent Thiel prot\u00e9g\u00e9s whose profile has risen in recent years, with other prot\u00e9g\u00e9s of the PayPal co-founder including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2024\/06\/investigative-reports\/worldcoin-sam-altmans-crypto-tool-for-technocracy\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">OpenAI\u2019s Sam Altman<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2024\/02\/investigative-reports\/manufacturing-consent-the-border-fiasco-and-the-smart-wall\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Anduril\u2019s Palmer Luckey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Recent reports\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/money\/companies\/peter-thiel-plays-kingmaker-again-as-trump-picks-jd-vance-for-veep\/ar-BB1q4PEE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">have\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/money\/companies\/peter-thiel-plays-kingmaker-again-as-trump-picks-jd-vance-for-veep\/ar-BB1q4PEE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">also noted<\/a>\u00a0that Thiel first recruited Vance into his circle while Vance was still a student at Yale Law School. Shortly thereafter, Vance joined Thiel\u2019s investment firm Mithril Capital, where he worked for two years before joining Revolution Ventures. Vance played\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/rise-of-the-rest-steve-case-jd-vance-2018-1?op=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">a major role<\/a>\u00a0in Revolution\u2019s \u201cRise of the Rest\u201d seed fund whose major investors included Amazon\u2019s Jeff Bezos and the Walton family of WalMart, who boast\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.recordonline.com\/story\/business\/2006\/03\/13\/hillary-s-ties-to-wal\/51118752007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">long-standing deep ties<\/a>\u00a0to the Clinton family. Vance later launched his own venture capital firm\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.venturecapitaljournal.com\/mithril-alums-greenspon-and-vance-launch-narya-capital\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Narya Capital<\/a>\u00a0in 2020, which was heavily funded by Thiel as well as former Google CEO Eric Schmidt.<\/p>\n<p>Schmidt, a major Democrat donor, has been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/03\/28\/google-billionaire-joe-biden-science-office-00020712\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">the guiding hand<\/a>\u00a0behind the Biden administration\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/recode\/23001543\/eric-schmidt-white-house-office-science-technology-policy-philanthropy-ethical-concerns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">science and technology policy<\/a>\u00a0and has dominated the development of the AI policies of the US military and intelligence communities, largely through his leadership of the National Security Commission on AI (NSCAI). As<em>\u00a0Unlimited Hangout<\/em>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2020\/05\/reports\/techno-tyranny-how-the-us-national-security-state-is-using-coronavirus-to-fulfill-an-orwellian-vision\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">previously reported<\/a>, the Schmidt-led NSCAI promoted policies like the end of private car ownership and in-person shopping in the United States to advance Americans\u2019 adoption of AI as supposed national security imperative in the lead-up to the Covid-era lockdowns.Both Schmidt and Thiel are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bilderbergmeetings.org\/background\/steering-committee\/steering-committee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">key\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bilderbergmeetings.org\/background\/steering-committee\/steering-committee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">members<\/a>\u00a0of the steering committee of the controversial, closed-door and overtly globalist Bilderberg conference.\u00a0<em>Newsweek<\/em>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/silicon-valley-switzerland-bilderberg-2019-and-high-tech-future-transatlantic-1441259\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">once called<\/a>\u00a0Schmidt and Thiel the two most influential figures at Bilderberg.<\/p>\n<p>Thiel has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/money\/companies\/peter-thiel-plays-kingmaker-again-as-trump-picks-jd-vance-for-veep\/ar-BB1q4PEE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">donated heavily<\/a>\u00a0to Vance\u2019s political career, giving $15 million to Vance\u2019s successful Senate bid in the 2022 election cycle in what was then the largest donation ever given to one Senate candidate. Thiel also joined Vance, a former \u201cNever Trumper,\u201d on a visit to Trump\u2019s Mar-a-Lago where Vance successfully won the former president\u2019s blessing. Thiel also connected Vance to other members of the so-called PayPal mafia, like David Sacks\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/money\/companies\/peter-thiel-plays-kingmaker-again-as-trump-picks-jd-vance-for-veep\/ar-BB1q4PEE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">who donated $1 million<\/a>\u00a0to Vance and hosted a fundraiser for him. Sacks, along with PayPal co-founder Elon Musk, were allegedly a key factor in Trump\u2019s selection of Vance as Vice President as they ran \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/politics\/how-tucker-carlson-and-elon-musk-secretly-lobbied-trump-on-jd-vance\/ar-BB1q5MDE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">a secret lobbying campaign<\/a>\u201d for Vance that also included media presenter Tucker Carlson.<\/p>\n<p>Thiel had been a major donor to Trump\u2019s 2016 presidential campaign and served on Trump\u2019s transition team, with other Thiel-linked figures\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2024\/02\/investigative-reports\/manufacturing-consent-the-border-fiasco-and-the-smart-wall\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">like Trae Stephens<\/a>\u00a0dramatically influencing Trump\u2019s Pentagon appointments. Stephens\u2019 influence at the Trump Pentagon also helped develop the military\u2019s relationship with the Thiel-funded company Anduril, which was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2024\/02\/investigative-reports\/manufacturing-consent-the-border-fiasco-and-the-smart-wall\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">co-founded by<\/a>\u00a0Stephens and Thiel fellow Palmer Luckey. Before Anduril, Luckey develop the Virual Reality system Oculus Rift, which was later sold to Facebook, where Thiel then served on the board. Anduril is now building a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2024\/02\/investigative-reports\/manufacturing-consent-the-border-fiasco-and-the-smart-wall\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">virtual border wall<\/a>\u201d for the federal government and Trump, who long campaigned on building a physical barrier on the US-Mexico border, abandoned that promise during his first term and now supports the exact solution Anduril is selling.<\/p>\n<p>Anduril\u2019s unmanned drones have also come to play\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2023\/10\/investigative-reports\/how-peter-thiel-linked-tech-is-fueling-the-ukraine-war\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">a major role in Ukrainian military operations<\/a>\u00a0during the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as have other controversial Thiel-funded companies like Palantir (a CIA contractor) and ClearView AI, which used mainly photos posted on Facebook (another Thiel-backed company) to develop its Orwellian facial recognition database. These companies\u2019 close ties to the Ukrainian military may impact a second Trump administration\u2019s policies as it relates to American support for Ukraine, particularly if Thiel is slated to hold significant influence. Beyond Ukraine, this\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2023\/10\/investigative-reports\/how-peter-thiel-linked-tech-is-fueling-the-ukraine-war\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">network<\/a>\u00a0of Thiel-funded defense companies are remaking the face of warfare and slowly but surely replacing human decision-making with AI.<\/p>\n<p>While these ties should be unsettling on their own, the potential influence of Thiel on the upcoming Trump administration should concern every American, regardless of where they fall on the political spectrum, due to Thiel\u2019s efforts to rehabilitate and remake some of the intelligence communities\u2019 most Orwellian and unconstitutional efforts to target domestic dissent.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"thiel-information-awareness\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Thiel Information Awareness<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>While Peter Thiel has long marketed himself as a libertarian, his track record from PayPal on has revealed him to instead be an architect of the modern surveillance state and a successor to the neoconservative cabal that had once tried (but failed) to do the same. During PayPal\u2019s earliest days, Thiel and his colleagues\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/U7CxIL2O1wQ?si=0ZFFdjFht9cwydJ-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">went around<\/a>\u00a0to various government agencies, including intelligence agencies, to see how they could best tailor their product to win government support (and contracts) for their products and services. After leaving PayPal, Thiel would follow a similar path in creating another company, Palantir. Palantir is the engine on which the surveillance state runs and, soon after Vance was announced as Trump\u2019s Vice President, it was reported that Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale as well as Palantir itself\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/money\/news\/elon-musk-to-pour-45m-monthly-in-pro-trump-super-pac-joined-by-palantirs-joe-lonsdale-winklevoss-twins-and-high-profile-backers-report\/ar-BB1q2RfA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">were backing\u00a0<\/a>a Trump-Vance super PAC called America PAC.<\/p>\n<p><em>Unlimited Hangout<\/em>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2020\/12\/investigative-series\/palantirs-tiberius-race-and-the-public-health-panopticon\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">has reported<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2023\/10\/investigative-reports\/how-peter-thiel-linked-tech-is-fueling-the-ukraine-war\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">extensively<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2021\/04\/investigative-reports\/the-military-origins-of-facebook\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Thiel<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2020\/10\/reports\/secretive-hhs-ai-platform-to-predict-us-covid-19-outbreaks-weeks-in-advance\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Palantir<\/a>\u00a0for several years. As noted in past reports, the company was created to be\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2020\/12\/investigative-series\/palantirs-tiberius-race-and-the-public-health-panopticon\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">the privatized version<\/a>\u00a0of a post-9\/11 surveillance program that had been dreamt up by the Iran-Contra criminals responsible for the unconstitutional Main Core database. During the Reagan administration, the individuals at the heart of the Iran-Contra scandal developed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mintpressnews.com\/cia-israel-mossad-jeffrey-epstein-orwellian-nightmare\/261692\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>a database called Main Core<\/u><\/a>, which firmly placed the US national-security state on its current, tech-fuelled path for crushing dissent. A senior government official with a high-ranking security clearance and service in five presidential administrations\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20090129230746\/http:\/\/radaronline.com:80\/from-the-magazine\/2008\/05\/government_surveillance_homeland_security_main_core_01-print.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>told\u00a0<\/u><em><u>Radar<\/u><\/em><\/a>\u00a0in 2008 that Main Core was \u201ca database of Americans, who, often for the slightest and most trivial reason, are considered unfriendly, and who, in a time of panic might be incarcerated. The database can identify and locate perceived \u2018enemies of the state\u2019 almost instantaneously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Main Core was expressly developed for use in \u201ccontinuity of government\u201d (COG) protocols by the key Iran-Contra figure Oliver North and his allies that operated an \u201coff the books\u201d intelligence apparatus with direct CIA involvement known as \u201cThe Enterprise.\u201d North and his associates used COG and Main Core to compile a list of US dissidents and \u201cpotential troublemakers\u201d to be dealt with if the continuity of government protocol was ever invoked. Troublingly, these protocols\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mintpressnews.com\/cia-israel-mossad-jeffrey-epstein-orwellian-nightmare\/261692\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">could be invoked<\/a>\u00a0for a variety of reasons, including widespread public, non-violent opposition to a US military intervention abroad, widespread internal dissent, or a vaguely defined moment of \u201cnational crisis\u201d or \u201ctime of panic.\u201d North would later brush up against the Trump administration, joining former Blackwater founder Erik Prince in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/theweek.com\/speedreads\/741481\/erik-prince-oliver-north-are-trying-sell-trump-secret-spy-force\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">an effort<\/a>\u00a0to lobby the administration to create an \u201coff the books,\u201d private CIA.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"cs-embed cs-embed-responsive\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Oliver North questioned on Continuity of Govt.wmv\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lNhFiWF3qlw?feature=oembed\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Congressman Jack Brooks attempted to ask Oliver North about the COG protocols during the 1987 Iran-Contra hearings, but was prevented from doing so.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Main Core\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mintpressnews.com\/cia-israel-mossad-jeffrey-epstein-orwellian-nightmare\/261692\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>utilized\u00a0<\/u><u>the\u00a0<\/u><u>PROMIS software<\/u><\/a>, which was stolen from its owners at Inslaw Inc. by top Reagan and US intelligence officials as well as Israeli spymaster Rafi Eitan. Also intimately involved in the PROMIS scandal was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/the-maxwell-family-business\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">me<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/the-maxwell-family-business\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">dia baron and Israeli \u201csuper spy\u201d Robert Maxwell<\/a>, the father of Ghislaine Maxwell and reportedly the man\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mintpressnews.com\/ari-ben-menashe-israel-relationship-jeffrey-epstein\/263465\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">who brought<\/a>\u00a0Jeffrey Epstein into the Israeli intelligence orbit. Like PROMIS, Main Core\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mintpressnews.com\/cia-israel-mossad-jeffrey-epstein-orwellian-nightmare\/261692\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">involved both US and Israeli intelligence<\/a>\u00a0and was a big data approach to the surveillance of perceived domestic dissidents.<\/p>\n<p>The Iran-Contra and PROMIS scandals were exposed, but were subsequently covered up, largely by the then US attorney general William Barr, who would return to serve in that same position during the Trump administration. The use of Main Core by the federal government persisted and continued to amass data. That data could not be fully tapped into and utilized by the intelligence community until after the events of September 11, 2001, which offered\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2020\/12\/investigative-series\/palantirs-tiberius-race-and-the-public-health-panopticon\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">a golden opportunity<\/a>\u00a0for the use of such tools against the domestic US population, all under the guise of combating \u201cterrorism.\u201d For example, in the immediate aftermath of 9\/11 government officials\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2020\/12\/investigative-series\/palantirs-tiberius-race-and-the-public-health-panopticon\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">reportedly saw<\/a>\u00a0Main Core being accessed by White House computers.<\/p>\n<p>September 11 was also used as an excuse to remove information \u201cfirewalls\u201d within the national-security state, expanding \u201cinformation sharing\u201d among agency databases and, by extension, also expanding the amount of data that could be accessed and analyzed by Main Core and its analogues. As Alan Wade, then serving as the CIA\u2019s chief information officer,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/lists.jammed.com\/ISN\/2002\/01\/0069.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">pointed<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/lists.jammed.com\/ISN\/2002\/01\/0069.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">out<\/a>\u00a0soon after 9\/11: \u201cOne of the post-September 11 themes is collaboration and information sharing. We\u2019re looking at tools that facilitate communication in ways that we don\u2019t have today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an attempt to build on these two post-9\/11 objectives simultaneously, the US national-security state attempted to create a \u201cpublic-private\u201d surveillance program so invasive that Congress defunded it just months after its creation due to concerns it would completely eliminate the right to privacy in the US. Called Total Information Awareness (TIA), the program\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/other\/qa-pentagons-total-information-awareness-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">sought to develop<\/a>\u00a0an \u201call-seeing\u201d surveillance apparatus managed by the Pentagon\u2019s DARPA. TIA\u2019s supporters argued that invasive surveillance of the entire US population was necessary to prevent terrorist attacks, bioterrorism events, and even naturally occurring disease outbreaks (such as pandemics) before they could take place.<\/p>\n<p>The architect of TIA, and the man who led it during its relatively brief existence, was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/other\/qa-pentagons-total-information-awareness-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>John Poindexter<\/u><\/a>, best known for being Reagan\u2019s National Security Advisor during Iran-Contra and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1990\/04\/08\/us\/poindexter-is-found-guilty-of-all-5-criminal-charges-for-iran-contra-cover-up.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">being convicted of five felonies<\/a>\u00a0in relation to that scandal. Poindexter, during the Iran-Contra hearings, had famously claimed that it was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/other\/qa-pentagons-total-information-awareness-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">his duty<\/a>\u00a0to withhold information from Congress.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12749\" src=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TIAlogo.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TIAlogo.jpg 500w, https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TIAlogo-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TIAlogo-200x150.jpg 200w, https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TIAlogo-260x195.jpg 260w, https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TIAlogo-380x285.jpg 380w\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The original TIA logo,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/harvardmagazine.com\/2013\/12\/security-versus-freedom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Source<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>In regard to TIA, one of Poindexter\u2019s key allies was the chief information officer of the CIA,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com.mx\/books?id=kGEMwv0VHL4C&amp;pg=PT163&amp;dq=cia+%22alan+wade%22&amp;hl=es-419&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=2ahUKEwiV1sa7jcnqAhUNWq0KHUNlBgMQ6AEwAHoECAYQAg#v=onepage&amp;q=%22alan%20wade%22&amp;f=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>Alan Wade<\/u><\/a>. Wade met with Poindexter in relation to TIA numerous times and managed the participation of not just the CIA but all US intelligence agencies that had signed on to add their data as \u201cnodes\u201d to TIA and, in exchange, gained access to its tools. Wade, while at the CIA, had\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2020\/12\/investigative-series\/palantirs-tiberius-race-and-the-public-health-panopticon\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">previously partnered\u00a0<\/a>with Robert Maxwell\u2019s daughter, Christine Maxwell, on national security software called Chiliad, which had similarities to TIA (as well as Palantir) but fell short of the proposed program\u2019s scope and ambition. Christine\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/one-nation-under-blackmail-vol-1-2-whitney-alyse-webb_202401\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">had previously been involved<\/a>\u00a0in her father\u2019s efforts to market bugged PROMIS software to US national laboratories.<\/p>\n<p>The TIA program, despite the best efforts of Poindexter and his allies such as Wade, was eventually forced to shut down after considerable criticism and public outrage. Though the program was defunded, it later emerged that TIA\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.technologyreview.com\/2006\/04\/26\/229286\/the-total-information-awareness-project-lives-on\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">was never<\/a>\u00a0<em><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.technologyreview.com\/2006\/04\/26\/229286\/the-total-information-awareness-project-lives-on\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">actually<\/a>\u00a0<\/u><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.technologyreview.com\/2006\/04\/26\/229286\/the-total-information-awareness-project-lives-on\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>shut down<\/u><\/a>, with its various programs having been covertly divided among the web of military and intelligence agencies that make up the US national security state. While some of those TIA programs went underground, the core panopticon software that TIA had hoped to wield began to be developed by the company now known as Palantir, with considerable help from the CIA and Alan Wade, as well as Poindexter.<\/p>\n<p>At the time it was formally launched in February 2003, the TIA program was immediately controversial, leading it to change its name in May 2003 to Terrorism Information Awareness in an apparent attempt to sound less like an all-encompassing domestic surveillance system and more like a tool specifically aimed at \u201cterrorists.\u201d The TIA program was shuttered by the end of 2003.<\/p>\n<p>The same month as the TIA name change Peter Thiel\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140516035733\/http:\/www.mausstrategicconsulting.com\/1\/post\/2014\/04\/a-pretty-complete-history-of-palantir.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>incorporated Palantir<\/u><\/a>. Thiel, however, had begun creating the software behind Palantir months in advance, though he claims he can\u2019t recall exactly when. Some reports state that Palantir began as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/2020\/09\/inside-palantir-technologies-peter-thiel-alex-karp.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">an anti-fraud algorithm<\/a>\u00a0at Thiel\u2019s PayPal. Thiel, Karp, and other Palantir cofounders claimed for years that the company\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/andygreenberg\/2013\/08\/14\/agent-of-intelligence-how-a-deviant-philosopher-built-palantir-a-cia-funded-data-mining-juggernaut\/?sh=484f9c167785\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>had been founded in 2004<\/u><\/a>, despite the paperwork of Palantir\u2019s incorporation by Thiel directly contradicting this claim.<\/p>\n<p>Also, in 2003, apparently soon after Thiel formally created Palantir, Iraq War architect and Bush-era neoconservative Richard Perle called Poindexter, saying that he wanted to introduce the architect of TIA to two Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, Peter Thiel and Alex Karp. According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/2020\/09\/inside-palantir-technologies-peter-thiel-alex-karp.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">a report in<\/a>\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/2020\/09\/inside-palantir-technologies-peter-thiel-alex-karp.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>New York Magazine<\/u><\/a><\/em>, Poindexter \u201cwas precisely the person\u201d whom Thiel and Karp wanted to meet, mainly because \u201ctheir new company was similar in ambition to what Poindexter had tried to create at the Pentagon<em>,<\/em>\u201d that is, TIA. During that meeting, Thiel and Karp sought \u201cto pick the brain of the man now widely viewed as the godfather of modern surveillance,\u201d shaping Palantir into a TIA equivalent.<\/p>\n<p>Soon after Palantir\u2019s incorporation, though the exact timing and details of the investment\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibtimes.com\/secretive-palantir-went-public-aoc-warned-sec-material-risks-investors-3055015\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">remain hidden<\/a>\u00a0from the public, the CIA\u2019s In-Q-Tel became the company\u2019s first backer, aside from Thiel himself, giving it an estimated $2 million. In-Q-Tel\u2019s stake in Palantir would not be publicly reported\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140516035733\/http:\/www.mausstrategicconsulting.com\/1\/post\/2014\/04\/a-pretty-complete-history-of-palantir.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>until mid-2006<\/u><\/a>. In addition, Alex Karp recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2020\/10\/21\/magazine\/palantir-alex-karp.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">told<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2020\/10\/21\/magazine\/palantir-alex-karp.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">the<\/a><em><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/em><em><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2020\/10\/21\/magazine\/palantir-alex-karp.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">New York Times<\/a>\u00a0<\/u><\/em>that \u201cthe real value of the In-Q-Tel investment was that it gave Palantir access to the CIA analysts who were its intended clients.\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cia.gov\/library\/publications\/intelligence-history\/in-q-tel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">A key figure<\/a>\u00a0in the making of In-Q-Tel investments during this period, including Palantir, was the CIA\u2019s chief information officer at the time, Alan Wade.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12751\" src=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/karpthiel.png\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 922px) 100vw, 922px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/karpthiel.png 922w, https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/karpthiel-300x203.png 300w, https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/karpthiel-768x519.png 768w, https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/karpthiel-380x257.png 380w, https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/karpthiel-800x541.png 800w\" alt=\"\" width=\"922\" height=\"623\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Alex Karp (left) and Peter Thiel (right) pose at the 2009 Sun Valley conference, which is hosted by Allen &amp; Company,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/ryanmac\/2013\/12\/05\/palantir-seeks-9-billion-valuation-in-new-round-as-ceo-alex-karp-nears-billionaire-mark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Source<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>After the In-Q-Tel investment, the CIA held the unique position of being Palantir\u2019s only client until 2008. During that period, Palantir\u2019s two top engineers\u2014Aki Jain and Stephen Cohen\u2014traveled to CIA headquarters at Langley, Virginia\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2020\/10\/21\/magazine\/palantir-alex-karp.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>every two weeks<\/u><\/a>. Jain recalls making at least two hundred trips to CIA headquarters between 2005 and 2009. During those regular visits, CIA analysts \u201cwould test [Palantir\u2019s software] out and offer feedback, and then Cohen and Jain would fly back to California to tweak it.\u201d As with In-Q-Tel\u2019s decision to invest in Palantir, the CIA\u2019s chief information officer at the time, Alan Wade, played a key role in many of these meetings and subsequently in the \u201ctweaking\u201d of Palantir\u2019s products. It should come as no surprise, then, that there is an overlap between Palantir\u2019s products and the vision that Wade and Poindexter had held for the failed TIA program. The extensive overlap between the two is detailed in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2020\/12\/investigative-series\/palantirs-tiberius-race-and-the-public-health-panopticon\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">previous\u00a0<em>Unlimited Hangout<\/em>\u00a0investigations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The benefits in repurposing the \u201cpublic-private\u201d TIA into a completely private entity after TIA was publicly dismantled are obvious. For instance, given that Palantir is a private company as opposed to a government program, the way its software is used by its government and corporate clients benefits from \u201cplausible deniability\u201d and frees Palantir and its software from constraints that would be present if it had remained a public project.<\/p>\n<p>A 2020\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2020\/10\/21\/magazine\/palantir-alex-karp.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>New York Times<\/u><\/a><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2020\/10\/21\/magazine\/palantir-alex-karp.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">profile on Palantir<\/a>\u00a0noted:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>The data, which is stored in various cloud services or on clients\u2019 premises, is controlled by the customer, and Palantir says it does not police the use of its products. Nor are the privacy controls foolproof; it is up to the customers to decide who gets to see what and how vigilant they wish to be.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"the-social-media-panopticon\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Social Media Panopticon<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Not long after Thiel helped resurrect TIA as Palantir, another post-9\/11 DARPA program was also seeking a private sector makeover. Developed by Douglas Gage, a close friend of Poindexter\u2019s and a DARPA program manager, LifeLog sought to \u201cbuild a database tracking a person\u2019s entire existence\u201d that included an individual\u2019s relationships and communications (phone calls, mail, etc.), their media-consumption habits, their purchases, and much more in order to build a digital record of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/2004\/02\/pentagon-kills-lifelog-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>everything an individual says, sees, or does.<\/u><\/a>\u201d LifeLog would then take this unstructured data and organize it into \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/2004\/02\/pentagon-kills-lifelog-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>discreet episodes<\/u><\/a>\u201d or snapshots while also \u201cmapping out relationships, memories, events and experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>LifeLog, per Gage and supporters of the program, would create a permanent and searchable electronic diary of a person\u2019s entire life, which DARPA argued could be used to create next-generation \u201cdigital assistants\u201d and offer users a \u201cnear-perfect digital memory.\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/users.ece.cmu.edu\/~adrian\/630-f03\/lifelog.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>Gage insisted<\/u><\/a>, even after the program was shut down, that individuals would have had \u201ccomplete control of their own data-collection efforts\u201d as they could \u201cdecide when to turn the sensors on or off and decide who will share the data.\u201d In the years since then, analogous promises of user control have been made by the tech giants of Silicon Valley, only to be broken repeatedly for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/confirmed-nsa-paid-google-microsoft-others-millions-1188615332\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">profit<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salon.com\/2014\/11\/16\/googles_secret_nsa_alliance_the_terrifying_deals_between_silicon_valley_and_the_security_state\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">to feed<\/a>\u00a0the government\u2019s domestic-surveillance apparatus.<\/p>\n<p>The information that LifeLog gleaned from an individual\u2019s every interaction with technology was to be combined with information obtained from a GPS transmitter that tracked and documented the person\u2019s location, audio-visual sensors that recorded what the person saw and said, as well as biomedical monitors that gauged the person\u2019s health. Like TIA, LifeLog was promoted by DARPA as potentially supporting \u201cmedical research and the early detection of an emerging epidemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Critics in mainstream media outlets and elsewhere were quick to point out that the program would inevitably be used to build profiles on dissidents as well as suspected terrorists. Combined with TIA\u2019s surveillance of individuals at multiple levels, LifeLog went farther by \u201cadding physical information (like how we feel) and media data (like what we read) to this transactional data.\u201d One critic, Lee Tien of the Electronic Frontier Foundation,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190627112113\/https:\/\/www.wired.com\/2003\/07\/helping-machines-think-different\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">warned at the time<\/a>\u00a0that the programs that DARPA was pursuing, including LifeLog, \u201chave obvious, easy paths to Homeland Security deployments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the time, DARPA\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/users.ece.cmu.edu\/~adrian\/630-f03\/lifelog.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">publicly insisted<\/a>\u00a0that LifeLog and TIA were not connected, despite their obvious parallels, and that LifeLog would not be used for \u201cclandestine surveillance.\u201d However, DARPA\u2019s own documentation on LifeLog noted that the project \u201cwill be able . . . to infer the user\u2019s routines, habits and relationships with other people, organizations, places and objects, and to exploit these patterns to ease its task,\u201d which acknowledged its potential use as a tool of mass surveillance.<\/p>\n<p>However, despite its proponents\u2019 best efforts, LifeLog was shuttered just like TIA. Given what had transpired with TIA, some suspected the program would continue under a different name. For example, Lee Tien of the Electronic Frontier Foundation\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/vbqdb8\/15-years-ago-the-military-tried-to-record-whole-human-lives-it-ended-badly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>told\u00a0<\/u><em><u>VICE<\/u><\/em><\/a><em><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/em>at the time of LifeLog\u2019s cancellation, that: \u201cIt would not surprise me to learn that the government continued to fund research that pushed this area forward without calling it LifeLog.\u201d Along with its critics, one of the would-be researchers working on LifeLog, MIT\u2019s David Karger, was also certain that the DARPA project would continue in a repackaged form.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/2004\/02\/pentagon-kills-lifelog-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>He told<\/u><em><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/em><em><u>Wired<\/u><\/em><\/a>\u00a0that \u201cI am sure such research will continue to be funded under some other title . . . Parker, previously known for co-founding Napster, later connected Facebook with its first outside investor, Peter Thiel. As discussed, Thiel, at that time, in coordination with the CIA, was actively trying to resurrect at least one controversial DARPA program that had been dismantled the previous year. Notably, Sean Parker, who became Facebook\u2019s first president, also had a history with the CIA, which sought to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20120614080645\/http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/stevenbertoni\/2011\/09\/21\/sean-parker-agent-of-disruption\/4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">recruit him<\/a>\u00a0at the age of sixteen soon after he had been busted by the FBI for hacking corporate and military databases. Thanks to Parker, in September 2004, Thiel formally acquired $500,000 worth of Facebook shares and was added its board. Parker maintained close ties to Facebook as well as to Thiel, with Parker\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20120504035034\/http:\/\/www.wired.com\/epicenter\/2011\/06\/many-hats-of-sean-parker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">being hired<\/a>\u00a0as a managing partner of Thiel\u2019s Founders Fund in 2006. Thiel left the Facebook board, which he had joined in 2005, in 2022 to focus on supporting \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/02\/07\/technology\/peter-thiel-facebook.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Trump-aligned candidates<\/a>,\u201d including J.D. Vance.<\/p>\n<p>Thiel and Facebook co-founder Mosokvitz became involved outside of the social network long after Facebook\u2019s rise to prominence, with Thiel\u2019s Founder Fund becoming a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/09\/30\/facebooks-billions-behind-palantir-and-asana-direct-listings.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">significant investor<\/a>\u00a0in Moskovitz\u2019s company Asana in 2012. Thiel\u2019s longstanding symbiotic relationship with Facebook co-founders extends to his company Palantir, as the data that Facebook users make public\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/vbqdb8\/15-years-ago-the-military-tried-to-record-whole-human-lives-it-ended-badly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">invariably winds up<\/a>\u00a0in Palantir\u2019s databases and helps drive the surveillance engine Palantir runs for US police departments, the military, and the intelligence community. Facebook data\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/clearview-scraped-30-billion-images-facebook-police-facial-recogntion-database-2023-4?op=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">also feeds<\/a>\u00a0another Thiel-backed company, Clearview AI.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, even LifeLog\u2019s architect, Douglas Gage, has publicly commented on Facebook\u2019s similarities to the program he had once hoped to lead. In 2015, He\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/vbqdb8\/15-years-ago-the-military-tried-to-record-whole-human-lives-it-ended-badly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><u>told\u00a0<\/u><em><u>VICE<\/u><\/em><\/a><em><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/em>that \u201cFacebook is the real face of pseudo-LifeLog at this point.\u201d He tellingly added, \u201cWe have ended up providing the same kind of detailed personal information to advertisers and data brokers and without arousing the kind of opposition that LifeLog provoked,\u201d precisely because it is now a private company and not a project housed at the Pentagon\u2019s DARPA.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"palantir-and-the-surveillance-agenda-under-trump\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Palantir and the\u00a0<strong>Surveillance Agenda under Trump<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>During the Trump administration, Palantir enjoyed an even more privileged status than it had held under previous administrations, with Palantir\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2020\/10\/21\/magazine\/palantir-alex-karp.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">gaining many new lucrative contracts<\/a>, mainly with the military and intelligence, during Trump\u2019s first term. For instance, Trump\u2019s Attorney General William Barr quietly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mintpressnews.com\/william-barr-formally-announces-orwellian-pre-crime-program\/262504\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">legalized pre-crime<\/a>\u00a0in the United States under the guise of detecting potential mass shooters before they commit any crime. The program, called DEEP, enables the DOJ and FBI to work with \u201cprivate sector partners\u201d to surveil people of interest that have committed no crime, but are \u201cmobilizing towards violence.\u201d At roughly the same time the program was announced, Barr was also pushing heavily for a government backdoor into consumer apps and devices, particularly those that utilize encryption. He also signed a data access agreement with then-UK Home Secretary Priti Patel that allowed both countries to \u201cdemand electronic data on consumers from tech companies based in the other country without legal restrictions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also during the Trump administration, an Israeli intelligence-linked company called Carbyne911 began to be installed throughout the United States in emergency call centers and has since spread throughout the nation. Carbyne911 was heavily funded by Peter Thiel\u2019s Founders Fund and Trae Stephens sits on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/carbyne.com\/company\/our-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">its\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/carbyne.com\/company\/our-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">advisory board<\/a>\u00a0alongside Michael Chertoff (head of DHS under George W. Bush) and Kirstjen Nielsen (head of DHS under Trump). Combined with the \u201cdomestic terror\u201d framework released\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2021\/06\/investigative-reports\/who-is-a-terrorist-in-bidens-america\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">during the Biden administration<\/a>, the definition of \u201cdomestic terrorists\u201d now encompasses those who oppose US government overreach and those who oppose any form of capitalism, including the World Economic Forum-favored \u201cstakeholder capitalism,\u201d and\/or \u201ccorporate globalization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration, during this same period, also mulled the creation of a new health-focused agency modeled after DARPA. The proposed \u201cHARPA\u201d, which was promoted extensively to Trump by his son-in-law Jared Kushner and his daughter Ivanka as well as Trump\u2019s close friend and former NBCUniversal president Bob Wright. HARPA\u2019s proposed flagship program \u2013 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mintpressnews.com\/cia-israel-mossad-jeffrey-epstein-orwellian-nightmare\/261692\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">S<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mintpressnews.com\/cia-israel-mossad-jeffrey-epstein-orwellian-nightmare\/261692\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">AFE HOME<\/a>\u201d (Stopping Aberrant Fatal Events by Helping Overcome Mental Extremes) \u2013 would use \u201cbreakthrough technologies with high specificity and sensitivity for early diagnosis of neuropsychiatric violence,\u201d specifically \u201cadvanced analytical tools based on artificial intelligence and machine learning.\u201d The program would have cost an estimated $60 million over four years and would use data from Americans\u2019 social media accounts as well as \u201cApple Watches, Fitbits, Amazon Echo and Google Home\u201d and other consumer electronic devices. However, Trump ultimately passed on creating HARPA, which was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2021\/05\/investigative-reports\/this-biden-proposal-could-make-the-us-a-digital-dictatorship\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">ultimately created<\/a>\u00a0during the Biden administration as ARPA-H, underscoring the bipartisan nature of this agenda.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"are-peter-thiel-backed-intelligence-contractors-maga\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Are Peter Thiel-Backed Intelligence Contractors \u201cMAGA\u201d?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Despite many Thiel-backed or Thiel-founded companies describing themselves as \u201cAmerica First\u201d and as defenders of \u201cWestern values,\u201d a closer examination of those companies suggests this is not the case. One lesser known example of this is Palantir\u2019s early role in developing a way for the US government to target Julian Assange, leaks-based journalism in the public interest, and what it called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mintpressnews.com\/palantir-the-paypal-offshoot-becomes-a-weapon-in-the-war-against-whistleblowers-and-wikileaks\/236545\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">The WikiLeaks Threat<\/a>.\u201d In looking at other Thiel-linked firms, it\u2019s quite clear that at least some are more than willing to target Americans on either side of the political divide on behalf of their biggest client, the so-called \u201cDeep State\u201d that Trump supporters revile. Take, for example, the Thiel-backed Clearview AI \u2013 which claims to now be able to identify every person in the world using its advanced facial recognition system. As\u00a0<em>Unlimited Hangout\u00a0<\/em>contributor Stavroula Pabst noted in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2023\/10\/investigative-reports\/how-peter-thiel-linked-tech-is-fueling-the-ukraine-war\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">a recent report<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>When asked in an<em>\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/751757198\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><em><u>NBC<\/u><\/em><u>\u00a0interview<\/u><\/a>\u00a0about Clearview AI\u2019s possible negative ramifications for society, the company\u2019s CEO, Hoan Ton-That,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/751757198\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">said<\/a>\u00a0\u2018[a] lot of peoples\u2019 minds on facial recognition technology were changed around Jan. 6th, when the insurrection happened [at the United States Capitol Building]. It was very instrumental in being able to make identifications quickly.\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As its own CEO stated, Clearview AI was used extensively on January 6th and later boasted of its \u201cpotential for identifying rioters at the January 6 attack on the Capitol.\u201d In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/09\/28\/1202310781\/exposing-the-secretive-company-at-the-forefront-of-facial-recognition-technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">a 2023 interview<\/a>,<em>\u00a0New York Times<\/em>\u00a0reporter Kashmir Hill added that, not only was Clearview AI used at the Capitol that day, but also in the days and weeks that followed to identify alleged rioters:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The FBI had photos of all these people because many of them were filming themselves on social media and posting photos online, and they weren\u2019t wearing masks. And so many police departments started running their photos through Clearview AI to identify them.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>After the events of January 6<sup>th<\/sup>, 2021, Clearview AI reported a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2021\/01\/09\/us\/trump-biden#facial-recognition-clearview-capitol\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">26 percent uptake<\/a>\u00a0of its services from law enforcement, having used its role in targeting Trump supporters as a sales pitch.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"cs-embed cs-embed-responsive\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Clearview AI Company Overview\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PZLUujBPolk?feature=oembed\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Clearview AI\u2019s sales pitch that includes its admitted role in arresting those present at the Capitol on January 6th, 2021<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Clearview AI is not the only Thiel-linked company willing to target Trump\u2019s base, as Palantir\u2019s co-founder and current CEO Alex Karp is obsessed with his long-time fear that the \u201cfar right\u201d is going to murder him for his ethnic background. That fear,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2020\/12\/investigative-series\/palantirs-tiberius-race-and-the-public-health-panopticon\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">per Karp<\/a>, \u201cpropels a lot of the decisions\u201d made at Palantir.\u00a0<strong>\u201c<\/strong>I still can\u2019t believe I haven\u2019t been shot and pushed out the window,\u201d Karp told\u00a0<em>New York Times<\/em>\u00a0reporter Michael Steinberger in 2020. Steinberger added that \u201cif the far right came to power, [Karp] said, he would certainly be among its victims. \u2018Who\u2019s the first person who is going to get hung? You make a list, and I will show you who they get first. It\u2019s me. During Covid, Palantir\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2020\/12\/investigative-series\/palantirs-tiberius-race-and-the-public-health-panopticon\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">developed Tiberius<\/a>, which was used by HHS to \u201chelp the federal government allocate the amount of vaccine each state will receive\u201d and also to \u201cdecide where every allocated dose will go \u2013 from local doctors\u2019 offices to large medical centers.\u201d Tiberius, and by extension Palantir,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unlimitedhangout.com\/2020\/12\/investigative-series\/palantirs-tiberius-race-and-the-public-health-panopticon\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">collected all the Covid-19 and healthcare data<\/a>\u00a0from US government agencies, local and state governments, pharmaceutical firms, vaccine manufacturers and companies contracted to act as vaccine distributers. Palantir was also provided Americans\u2019 sensitive health information by the Trump-era HHS as well as \u201ca wide range of demographic, employment and public health data sets\u201d in order to \u201chelp identify high-priority populations\u201d to receive the vaccine first.
