The punishment led to a national outcry from critics who said school leaders were trying to silence the students. After the pushback, the district\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/education\/paulding-family-pushes-back-on-school-suspension-over-crowded-hall-photo\/2XTUNBDA2NDF7I2RHFLXR2MR4M\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">relented and lifted the suspensions<\/a> on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text b-margin-bottom-d40-m20\">The letter to parents does not include information on whether any other students or staff who were exposed have to quarantine or whether any classrooms will be closed. \u201cOur custodial staff continues to thoroughly clean and disinfect the school building daily, and especially affected areas,\u201d the letter says.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"c-section\n\n          b-margin-bottom-d40-m20\n          \"><\/p>\n<div class=\"c-contentElements\">\n<p class=\"story-text b-margin-bottom-d40-m20\">Angie Franks said both her nephews who attend the school have tested positive for COVID-19. One came home from school Monday unable to smell, she said in an interview with the AJC. His mother took him for testing and the results the next day showed him positive, Franks said. By then, his brother was exhibiting symptoms and was also tested. His positive results were returned Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text b-margin-bottom-d40-m20\">The students are quarantining at home, but both went to school Monday. Franks said the boys\u2019 father notified the school on Tuesday and Wednesday after getting their test results.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text b-margin-bottom-d40-m20\">\u201cThey sat in class all day long with no masks and not social distancing,\u201d Franks said. \u201cAnd I have no idea how many kids they came into contact with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text b-margin-bottom-d40-m20\">She said the boys didn\u2019t grasp the gravity of the virus and weren\u2019t encouraged to wear masks in classrooms or hallways by the school. Paulding County\u2019s school system is not mandating masks for students and staff, though it is supplying them for teachers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text b-margin-bottom-d40-m20\">Concerns about Paulding\u2019s plans for handling the coronavirus led one school nurse to resign from the district last month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text b-margin-bottom-d40-m20\">Amy Westmoreland told the AJC on Sunday that she left her job as the school nurse at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Y9qi9lwiPq4&amp;feature=youtu.be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">W.C.
