Ex-FBI Resistance Lawyer To Plead Guilty In Durham’s Trump-Russia Probe<\/h1>\n

Former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith will plead guilty to one count of making a false statement regarding his involvement in the agency’s actions against the Trump campaign during the 2016 US election, according to the\u00a0Associated Press<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

In November, the\u00a0New York Times<\/em><\/a>\u00a0revealed that Clinesmith was under criminal investigation for allegedly doctoring materials used to obtain\u00a0renewals\u00a0<\/em>of the Carter Page surveillance warrant. Clinesmith<\/strong>\u00a0-who worked on both the Hillary Clinton email investigation and the Russia probe, was\u00a0part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team<\/strong>, and interviewed Trump campaign advisor\u00a0George Papadopoulos<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Clinesmith, a 37-year-old graduate of Georgetown Law, “took an email from an official at another federal agency that contained several factual assertions,\u00a0then added material to the bottom that looked like another assertion from the email\u2019s author<\/strong>, when\u00a0it was instead his own understanding<\/strong>,” according to the report.<\/p>\n

Mr. Clinesmith included this altered email in a package that he compiled for another F.B.I. official to read in preparation for signing an affidavit that would be submitted to the court<\/strong>\u00a0attesting to the facts and analysis in the wiretap application.<\/p>\n

The details of the email are apparently classified and may not be made public even when the report is unveiled.<\/strong><\/u>\u00a0–New York Times<\/em><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Clinesmith was identified by Inspector General Michael Horowitz as one of\u00a0several<\/strong>\u00a0FBI officials who harbored animus towards President Trump, after which he was kicked off the Mueller Russia investigation in February 2018. Two other FBI officials removed for similar reasons were Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, both of whom also worked on the Clinton and Trump investigations, and both of whom have similarly left the bureau.<\/p>\n

On November 9, 2016 – the day after Trump won the election, Clinesmith texted another FBI employee “My god damned name is all over the legal documents<\/strong>\u00a0investigating his staff,” adding “So, who knows if that breaks to him what he is going to do.”<\/p>\n
