This headline from CNN sets the tone: \u201cAfD \u2013 that\u2019s the Alternative for Germany \u2013 becomes first far-right party to win German state election since 1945.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"i_1\" class=\"image imagecenter container\">\n<div class=\"image-holder\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/1-600x261.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/1-600x261.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"p_1_4\" class=\"container\"><span class=\"contents\">Hmm. 1945. The article goes on: The AfD became \u201cthe first far-right party to win a state election in Germany since the Nazi era.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"i_2\" class=\"image imagecenter container\">\n<div class=\"image-holder\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/2-600x417.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/2-600x417.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"p_1_5\" class=\"container\"><span class=\"contents\">Yikes. There were elections in two states. The AfD came in first in Thuringia, and second in Saxony.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"p_1_6\" class=\"container\"><span class=\"contents\">\u201cIn another worrying development for Germany\u2019s mainstream, the fledgling Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) \u2013 a far-left party that has questioned the country\u2019s support for Ukraine and shares some of the AfD\u2019s anti-immigration streak \u2013 came third in both states, despite only being founded earlier this year.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"i_3\" class=\"image imagecenter container\">\n<div class=\"image-holder\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/3-600x417.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/3-600x417.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"p_1_7\" class=\"container\"><span class=\"contents\">More about this remarkable woman Sahra Wagenknecht later. Only one thing: It believes Germany should be for Germans, and that it doesn\u2019t have a moral obligation to let in millions of foreigners. Or maybe, \u201c<em>Deutchland uber alles<\/em>?\u201d No. Last year, he said \u201c<em>Alles f\u00fcr Deutschland<\/em>,\u201d or \u201ceverything for Germany,\u201d which was a Nazi brownshirt slogan, sometimes engraved on knife blades.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"i_8\" class=\"image imagecenter container\">\n<div class=\"image-holder\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/8-600x299.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/8-600x299.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"p_1_12\" class=\"container\"><span class=\"contents\">However, a lot of other groups \u2013 on the right and the left \u2013 have used it, well before and after the Nazis. Mr. H\u00f6cke said he didn\u2019t know about the Nazi connection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"p_1_13\" class=\"container\"><span class=\"contents\">In Germany, it\u2019s against the law to use certain phrases or to make the Nazi salute, so I suppose it was naughty of Mr. H\u00f6cke, two months later, to tease a friendly crowd by saying \u201cAlles f\u00fcr . . . .\u201d When the audience completed the forbidden phrase, he was found guilty and fined.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"p_1_14\" class=\"container\"><span class=\"contents\">In May, we got this: \u201cGermany struck with outrage after racist chants on a jet set holiday island.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"i_9\" class=\"image imagecenter container\">\n<div class=\"image-holder\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/10-600x181.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/10-600x181.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"p_1_15\" class=\"container\"><span class=\"contents\">If you listen carefully, you can hear \u201cDeutschland den Deutschen,\u201d (Germany for the Germans) and \u201cAusl\u00e4nder raus!\u201d (foreigners out!) [0:00 \u2013 0:09] Those phrases are not yet illegal, merely scandalous.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"p_1_16\" class=\"container\"><span class=\"contents\">What was especially horrifying was that this was at the super-chic Pony Kampen night club on the North Sea island of Sylt. The people in the video had each paid the equivalent of $165 just to get in the door.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"i_10\" class=\"image imagecenter container\">\n<div class=\"image-holder\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/11-600x449.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/11-600x449.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"p_1_17\" class=\"container\"><span class=\"contents\">The president of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier was appalled. \u201cIt\u2019s not just the disenfranchised who are becoming radicalized, but that radicalization is also coming from the heart of society.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"i_11\" class=\"image imagecenter container\">\n<div class=\"image-holder\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/12-zuma-600x437.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/12-zuma-600x437.jpg\" alt=\"Credit Image: \u00a9 Bernd Von Jutrczenka\/dpa via ZUMA Press\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"caption\">Credit Image: \u00a9 Bernd Von Jutrczenka\/dpa via ZUMA Press<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"i_12\" class=\"image imagecenter container\">\n<div class=\"image-holder\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/13-600x222.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/13-600x222.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"p_1_18\" class=\"container\"><span class=\"contents\">So now you can understand why CNN imagines swastikas flying over the Bundestag.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"p_1_19\" class=\"container\"><span class=\"contents\">In the Thuringian parliament, as you can see in the \u201cseats won\u201d line, the AfD came in first with 32 seats, a gain of 10. The CDU or Christian Democratic Union, a soft conservative party, came in second with 23 seats, and the brand-new, leftist-\u201cextremist,\u201d immigration-control BSW of Sahra Wagenknecht came out of nowhere to pick up 15 seats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"p_1_20\" class=\"container\"><span class=\"contents\">The losers are down below, and you can see the numbers for \u201cSeat change.\u201d The hard-left Left Party lost a catastrophic 17 seats, the Social Democrats, a soft-left party, lost two, and the goofy-liberal Greens lost all five of their seats. All the winning parties, there in the top row, are \u201cconservative,\u201d at least on some issues, and all the losers were lefties.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"p_1_21\" class=\"container\"><span class=\"contents\">Normally, the AfD, with the largest number of seats, would head up a coalition government for the state, and since it takes 45 for a majority, it could reach that number either with the CDU\u2019s 23 seats or the BSW\u2019s 15. That\u2019s unlikely.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"i_13\" class=\"image imagecenter container\">\n<div class=\"image-holder\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/14-339x600.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/14-339x600.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"p_1_22\" class=\"container\"><span class=\"contents\">You see, democracy is wonderful, except when people don\u2019t vote the way they\u2019re supposed to. And so, the other parties have promised to treat the AfD like a leper colony. \u201cGerman chancellor condemns first state election success for far-right party since WWII.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"i_14\" class=\"image imagecenter container\">\n<div class=\"image-holder\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/15-600x475.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/15-600x475.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"p_1_23\" class=\"container\"><span class=\"contents\">Olaf Scholz warned the other parties not to join a coalition with the AfD. \u201cOur country cannot and must not get used to this,\u201d he said. \u201cThe AfD is damaging Germany. It is weakening the economy, dividing society and ruining our country\u2019s reputation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"i_15\" class=\"image imagecenter container\">\n<div class=\"image-holder\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/16-600x198.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/16-600x198.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"p_1_24\" class=\"container\"><span class=\"contents\">Many Germans think it\u2019s wrong to leave the AfD out in the cold. Just a week before the vote, a Syrian Muslim knifed three people to death and badly wounded eight others. This was in the city of Solingen which was celebrating its 650th anniversary with a \u201cfestival of diversity,\u201d no less.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"i_16\" class=\"image imagecenter container\">\n<div class=\"image-holder\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/17-600x355.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/17-600x355.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"p_1_26\" class=\"container\"><span class=\"contents\">The killer is Issa Al H.
