(Photo: Tammy Swales Studio)<\/p><\/div>\n<p id=\"PCSVOZPYANFT3EE4VCICGZA72I\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">There is no dancing allowed in New York\u2019s bars and restaurants, even at a wedding reception, according to the New York State Liquor Authority.<\/p>\n<p id=\"HLUN2KTNVJBS3NWVXL35KI4Q5E\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">To control the spread of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.syracuse.com\/coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">coronavirus<\/a>, Gov. Andrew Cuomo\u2019s liquor authority has also specifically banned darts, pool, cornhole, karaoke and exotic dancing.<\/p>\n<p id=\"BETIPFREZFBUNNMZMGJ3MXUWZA\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">Somehow, a place that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.syracuse.com\/entertainment\/2020\/08\/wine-slushies-axe-throwing-10-state-fair-like-things-to-do-in-cny.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">allows customers to throw axes and drink beer<\/a>\u00a0is reopening Friday. There was no word from the liquor authority on how that fits in to safety protocols.<\/p>\n<p id=\"BS6EXGM5LZEUXMMF4YXICWSTFA\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">No kidding. Cuomo has also banned comedy shows.<\/p>\n<p id=\"A27BSLHXVVE5BP7VGPDQWT4JKQ\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">The intent is to reduce the number of people congregating in bars. If you go to a bar, you must sit at a table or move along, according to the liquor authority\u2019s guidelines.<\/p>\n<p id=\"C7MRHHSV25ASFILBLS5B6CH22E\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">\u201cI don\u2019t let people dance,\u201d said Dan Palladino, who owns Heritage Hill Brewhouse in Pompey. \u201cI think it\u2019s kind of sad, but I don\u2019t want to risk my license.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"6EIHQWTZJNAWXIEYQBJ7ZMZ22E\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.syracuse.com\/entertainment\/2020\/08\/new-ny-state-rule-bans-ticketed-music-events-at-bars-this-is-devastating.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Even live music is in question<\/a>\u00a0after the liquor authority surprised bars and restaurants with new language this week on its Frequently Asked Questions page. The state now says music should be incidental and not a concert with paid ticketholders.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ZRBTPUNCK5HARIIKENY4KFPOCM\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">Heritage Hill hires bands to play to customers seated outdoors on the weekends and charges a $5 cover. Palladino said it helps him pay the band and to control the crowd. Having people pay to watch a band actually limits the number of customers who turn over tables, he said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"EJU3A6EEUBCNNOJQFFUUQ6WMWE\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">\u201cI have to say: Who\u2019s asking the why?\u201d Palladino said. \u201cWhere are these regulations coming from? We know that our cases are declining, yet we continue to come out with more and more regulations, putting a tourniquet on businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"3YRUSBCFXRHXRF6VUDD2XQDSGQ\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">Palladino took away the cornhole games early on to avoid the appearance of congregating. But he disagrees with the rule when people are outside and playing with people they know.<\/p>\n<p id=\"SOCKWKIXKRGEPKKLC2SOZ5TYF4\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">Middle Ages Brewing, in Syracuse, hosts live music on weekends on its loading dock.<\/p>\n<p id=\"MA3V2JFA4FGFVBPVEO3MPDUU6E\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">Owner Isaac Rubenstein has to remind people not to dance to it.<\/p>\n<p id=\"P7TZNUDEQJGDLOYGYEW323NX2Q\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">\u201cYou will get people who want to get up and dance to Grateful Dead,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s kind of weird to say you can\u2019t dance by yourself in the middle of nowhere. They generally listen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"CQIMBQCXFJFVLOBWFZY7VWN57E\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">Rubenstein has already stopped advertising his events to keep the crowd small. He also holds the concerts in the afternoon. There\u2019s no charge. He said he wants everyone to stay safe and he wants to stay open.<\/p>\n<p id=\"47FLSPZXDZBHRFN6YZFDC6DP44\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">\u201cWhile it might be a pain in the ass to enforce and suck for the individuals, especially for weddings, I do understand the overall purpose,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"H6TZFQMBUFDNFAND2UB3MGGAOU\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">The restrictions have cut into business for Jonathan Paduano, a DJ who owns Classy Cat Entertainment. Some of the small restaurants where he played music can only offer take-out.
