Biden Attempts To Defend Hypocritical Subpoena Refusal (That Trump Is Being Impeached For)<\/h2>\n

Despite previously demanding\u00a0a “fair trial”\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>in the Senate in which\u00a0“all witnesses be seen and heard,”<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0former VP Joe Biden appears to mean\u00a0all witnesses except him and his son.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Having complained bitterly that\u00a0President Trump\u00a0did not comply with subpoenas in The House inquiry (and seeing Trump impeached for obstruction of Congress for such), Biden has said he will not comply with a Senate subpoena (which he has not received yet!).<\/p>\n

During an interview with the editorial board of\u00a0The Des Moines Register<\/a>, Biden stated that\u00a0he would not play into the president\u2019s \u201cgame.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe reason I wouldn\u2019t is because it\u2019s all designed to deal with Trump doing what he\u2019s done his whole life: trying to take the focus off him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe issue is not what I did.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is all about a diversion,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>Biden said to the newspaper.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd we play his game all the time. He\u2019s done it his whole career.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Democratic Party presidential nominee candidate’s comments came after Trump essentially said that\u00a0if the Democrats want witnesses, we will have witnesses, but they will not like who they are<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

However, after legal experts and commentators criticized Biden for his remarks to the Iowa newspaper, noting that the White House\u2019s refusal to comply with congressional subpoenas was part of the reason why Trump had been impeached, Biden decided to clarify his remarks this morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to clarify something I said yesterday.\u00a0In my 40 years in public life, I have always complied with a lawful order and in my eight years as VP, my office – unlike Donald Trump and Mike Pence<\/strong>\u00a0– cooperated with legitimate congressional oversight requests,\u201d Biden said on Twitter.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut\u00a0I am just not going to pretend that there is any legal basis for Republican subpoenas\u00a0<\/strong>for my testimony in the impeachment trial,\u201d Biden added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Then Biden really exposed his perspective:<\/p>\n

“The subpoenas should go to witnesses with testimony to offer to Trump\u2019s shaking down the Ukraine government \u2014 they should go to the White House.”<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
