On Friday, police said:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">1,377 had been arrested because of the PolyU protests<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">810 were arrested when leaving the campus, with 567 nearby<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">318 people under the age of 18 had their names recorded<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape no-caption full-width\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image__img js-image-replace\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/cpsprodpb\/1226D\/production\/_105894347_grey_line-nc.png\" alt=\"Presentational grey line\" width=\"640\" height=\"2\" data-highest-encountered-width=\"624\" \/><\/span><\/figure>\n<p>Elvis, a 19-year-old student, spent five days inside PolyU during the siege.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Chairs and tables were all taken out to create barricades so everyone was sleeping on the ground but it was comfortable because we were so tired,&#8221; he told the the BBC.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Many people were caught. We tried to escape three times but kept failing because the police kept firing teargas and rubber bullets at us. I don&#8217;t think they wanted us to leave. It was a nightmare. There were blood everywhere.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The protesters cooked for themselves with supplies provided by members of the press or medical team.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Most of the water tasted like teargas. That&#8217;s why we had to drink bottled waters. On the fourth day, there were no fresh water bottles left, so we drank water from bottles left behind.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Some protesters were able to escape by climbing down ropes from a road bridge, but Elvis said it was too dangerous and he didn&#8217;t want to leave others behind.
