The Obama administration’s Justice Department “got caught” after newly released records show dozens of cell phones from then-Special Counsel\u00a0Robert Mueller\u2019s investigative team<\/a>\u00a0were “accidentally wiped” during\u00a0the\u00a0Russia investigation<\/a>,\u00a0Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn.<\/a>, said Saturday.<\/p>\n

“This shows you why\u00a0you have to investigate the\u00a0investigators,” the Senate Judiciary Committee member told “Fox & Friends Weekend<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

“They got caught and\u00a0now they are trying to execute a\u00a0cover-up that nobody ever could have\u00a0made this up,” she added.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0records<\/a>\u00a0show at least several dozen phones were wiped of information because of forgotten passcodes, irreparable screen damage, loss of the device, intentional deletion or other reasons\u00a0—\u00a0before the DOJ\u2019s Office of Inspector General could examine the devices.<\/p>\n

“People are saying this is so implausible,” Blackburn said.\u00a0“How do\u00a0you have 29 phones were\u00a029 people forget their passwords? This is just ridiculous.”<\/p>\n

Blackburn said she discussed the report with Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., recently at a GOP dinner in Williamson, Tenn.<\/p>\n

“This just does not happen,” she said, “And then (former FBI lawyer) Lisa Page’s phone\u00a0goes\u00a0missing, and they can’t locate it.”<\/p>\n

“They got caught,” she said. “They were\u00a0trying to use\u00a0the FBI, the Department of Justice —\u00a0and remember that was the Obama Department of Justice — to\u00a0investigate a candidate, a\u00a0private citizen running for\u00a0president, then investigate his\u00a0transition.”<\/p>\n

The\u00a0documents were released<\/a>\u00a0after a lawsuit by\u00a0the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch. They were first reported by Sean Davis of the Federalist.<\/p>\n
