Cuomo<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n<p>By Kate Sheehy<br \/>\nNew York Post<\/p>\n<p>New York is planning to set up \u201cmass vaccination sites\u2019\u2019 once COVID-19 vaccines become available through the federal government and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/09\/24\/andrew-cuomo-has-a-plan-to-slow-roll-covid-19-vaccine-in-new-york\/\">vetted by an independent state panel,<\/a>\u00a0Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The governor \u2014 in rolling out a statewide vaccine-distribution strategy \u2014 said the effort would be the largest that New York has undertaken since the coronavirus pandemic began in March.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow do you administer 40 million vaccines to the state of New York? That is the trick,\u2019\u2019 Cuomo said at a press briefing.<\/p>\n<p>He said so many doses are needed because there are 20 million state residents, and \u201cmost of the vaccines they\u2019re talking about require two doses\u2019\u2019 three to four weeks apart.<\/p>\n<p>The governor said hospitals, urgent-care centers, primary-care locations, pharmacies and state Health Department offices are among the sites being considered for vaccine distribution.<\/p>\n<p>He said the first round of doses would go to both those people most at risk for COVID-19 and front-line healthcare workers in hot spots.<\/p>\n<p>Still, he noted what he described as significant obstacles: getting the vaccines from the federal government, having them approved by his independent medical advisory panel, ensuring people trust the vaccines enough to get them, much less both doses \u2014 and even finding the proper sites to keep the medicine.The next round would be extended to those two groups statewide, and after that, everyone in areas with the highest rates of infection, followed by the rest of the population.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStorage of the vaccines will have to be minus 80 degrees,\u2019\u2019 Cuomo said. \u201cThere is a question of how many refrigeration units would be available to do that.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>___<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/10\/18\/cuomo-lays-out-massive-covid-19-vaccination-plan-across-ny\/\">https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/10\/18\/cuomo-lays-out-massive-covid-19-vaccination-plan-across-ny\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gov.
