(Associated Press\/File)<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n<p>By James Varney &#8211; The Washington Times<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/facebook\/\">Facebook<\/a>\u00a0magnate Mark Zuckerberg and his wife gave a nonprofit $400 million to pay election workers, train poll workers and rent polling locations for the Nov. 3 vote in various states.<\/p>\n<p>The Zuckerbergs\u2019 largesse is an unprecedented private expenditure on a process long held to be an exclusively public operation and has spurred at least nine lawsuits challenging the effort by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/center-for-tech-and-civil-life\/\">Center for Tech and Civil Life<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The donation to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/center-for-tech-and-civil-life\/\">center<\/a>\u00a0roughly equals what Congress appropriated to the states in this year\u2019s CARES Act to pay for running elections in 2020 amid the tumult of the COVID-19 pandemic, critics charged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve invited billionaires into the counting room and it will undermine the integrity of our elections. It\u2019s unprecedented,\u201d said\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/topics\/phill-kline\/\">Phill Kline<\/a>, director of the Amistad Project, an initiative started by the conservative Thomas More Society to defend civil liberties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are headed toward a situation in which Big Tech controls the flow of information and the election process.
