Kevin McCarthy: Pelosi Won’t Have Votes To Retain House Speaker Post<\/h1>\n

Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., predicted Sunday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.,\u00a0won\u2019t have enough votes to retain her top spot in January, declaring \u201cit\u2019s time America got a Republican Speaker of the House.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an interview on Fox News\u2019\u00a0\u201cSunday Morning Futures,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0McCarthy hailed GOP election wins in the House and Senate.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey said in the House,\u00a0Republicans would lose 15-20\u00a0seats, every pollster said that,\u00a0Speaker Pelosi and [House Majority Leader Rep.] Steny Hoyer [D-Md.].\u00a0They also said we would lose the\u00a0Senate and legislatures as\u00a0well.\u00a0What happened?<\/p>\n

\u201cWe didn’t lose one incumbent. We won every seat except one open. We won 28 of the 29 most competitive seats \u2026. We didn’t lose the Senate. We didn’t lose one control of any legislature. Actually, Republicans gained three new legislatures and we’ve had the most competitive presidential race in our modern history.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat’s why every vote should be\u00a0counted, every recount go\u00a0forward, and every challenge\u00a0should be heard,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Pelosi, he predicted, won\u2019t win back her speakership in January either.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo become Speaker you\u00a0have to have 218 votes on the\u00a0floor,\u201d he noted. \u201cWhen Pelosi went up for that vote\u00a0two years ago, there were 15\u00a0Democrats who voted against her.\u00a0Ten of those Democrats will be\u00a0coming to Congress.\u00a0Those 10 vote against her again,\u00a0she will not be Speaker of the\u00a0House.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are close enough now that we\u00a0can control the floor with a few\u00a0Democrats joining with us,\u201d he declared, adding: \u201cI think it’s better for\u00a0America the sooner a\u00a0Republican becomes Speaker.\u201d<\/p>\n
