Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Tuesday defended the basis for killing Iranian General Qasem Soleimani because of the threat of an imminent strike but declined present any evidence, saying President Donald Trump\u2019s decision was \u201centirely legal.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s been much made about this question of intelligence and imminence,\u201d Pompeo said at the State Department. \u201cAny time a president makes a decision of this magnitude, there are multitude pieces of information that come before him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pompeo said that senior officials presented Trump with the threats \u201cin broad detail.\u201d<\/p>\n
The top US diplomat didn\u2019t offer any evidence of looming threats, but instead referred to past events that he said Soleimani was responsible for.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe could see clearly everything Soleimani has done,\u201d Pompeo said, pointing to Iran\u2019s influence in Lebanon and other countries in the region where he said Tehran has denied people \u201csovereignty and freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n
