Vandals targeted statues of President William McKinley in Chicago, a veterans monument in Portland, an Abraham Lincoln statue in Spokane, Wash., and two statues in Minneapolis: one of George Washington and another celebrating pioneers.<\/p>\n<section class=\"post-body\">\u201cStop colinization [sic]. End Thanksgiving. F**k 12,\u201d vandals spray-painted on the plinth of the Washington statue in Washburn Fair Oaks Park in Minneapolis. Nelson Park. While it began with Confederate monuments, this summer vandals progressed to targeting America\u2019s heroes,\u00a0such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/news-and-politics\/jeff-reynolds\/2020\/06\/19\/toppled-george-washington-statue-causes-harm-portlands-regional-arts-and-culture-council-n556502\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">George Washington<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/news-and-politics\/tyler-o-neil\/2020\/06\/23\/s-d-governor-weighs-in-on-idea-of-blowing-up-mount-rushmore-n568018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thomas Jefferson<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/news-and-politics\/tyler-o-neil\/2020\/06\/01\/iconic-d-c-monuments-vandalized-in-riots-do-black-vets-count-n477953\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Abraham Lincoln<\/a>. Then came\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/news-and-politics\/bryan-preston\/2020\/06\/08\/get-gandhi-n508778\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mahatma Gandhi<\/a>, Union General Ulysses S. Grant,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/culture\/tyler-o-neil\/2020\/06\/04\/george-floyd-rioters-deface-civil-war-monument-celebrating-black-union-patriots-n495913\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">black Union soldiers<\/a>, and freed slave\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/culture\/tyler-o-neil\/2020\/07\/06\/statue-honoring-frederick-douglass-in-his-home-city-toppled-on-anniversary-of-his-famous-speech-n608041\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Frederick Douglass<\/a>. Vandals even attacked a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/culture\/tyler-o-neil\/2020\/07\/09\/vandals-target-monument-for-those-evil-racist-checks-notes-9-11-firefighters-n626478\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">monument to 9\/11 firefighters<\/a>\u00a0and painted a statue of Jesus black.<\/p>\n<p>However, targeting patriotic symbols just before Thanksgiving seems particularly disgusting.<\/p>\n<p>Early on Wednesday morning, police prevented vandals from toppling a statue of President William McKinley in a Chicago park. The vandals tethered a rope to a police car and spray-painted the statue with the words \u201cLand Back,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/local\/vandals-try-to-pull-down-chicago-parks-mckinley-statue\/2381494\/?_osource=SocialFlowTwt_CHBrand\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NBC 5 Chicago reported<\/a>. It is no wonder that some Native American families see Thanksgiving as a day of mourning,\u201d she writes.<\/p>\n<p>Much of the history between Native Americans and European settlers is indeed tragic, but leftist narratives often deprive the victims of their agency. Tisquantum, for instance, appears to have been plotting to overthrow the Wampanoag leader before Tisquantum\u2019s untimely death, and his machinations likely contributed to the ultimate Puritan victory. History is far messier than the simple narrative of evil European colonialism and \u201cwhite supremacy\u201d suggests.<\/p>\n<p>Americans should reexamine our history, but the nefarious message of Marxist critical race theory suggests we should upend society in order to satisfy historical grievances in the name of racial justice. This toxic vision undermines the very real progress America has made in terms of establishing civil rights regardless of race and in terms of securing broad prosperity through a free market economy.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-4\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-300x250_9\" class=\"gpt-ad ad-250 text-center\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Americans have a great deal for which to be thankful, even in the midst of a pandemic.
