href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/diego-maradona\">Diego Maradona<\/a>\u2019s lawyer has accused the first responders who attempted to save the Argentine football great of taking too long to arrive at his home, and has called for a full investigation into the circumstances that led to his death on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-qWSGh iSUKoQ\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/sport\/football\/news\/diego-maradona-dead-age-cause-b1761813.html\">Maradona died at the age of 60<\/a>\u00a0after going into cardiac arrest at his home in Tigre, Argentina, just three weeks after undergoing brain surgery to remove a blood clot.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/sport\/football\/news\/diego-maradona-latest-hospital-confused-abstinence-b1635115.html\">He had also been treated for alcohol dependency<\/a>\u00a0in the days following his operation, having shown withdrawal symptoms during his time in hospital.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-qWSGh iSUKoQ\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/sport\/football\/news\/diego-maradona-hospital-latest-updates-surgery-b1721677.html\">He was released to continue his recovery<\/a>\u00a0from home where he moved into the Tigre complex along with a nurse to look after him, but on Wednesday he reported feeling ill at breakfast and,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/sport\/football\/news\/diego-maradona-final-words-cause-death-b1762203.html\">according to an preliminary autopsy<\/a>, he suffered a pulmonary edema caused by heart failure and died in his sleep.<\/p>\n<p>But his lawyer, Matias Morla, has accused medical personnel of ignoring his condition for the final 12 hours of his life and labelled the time it took for an ambulance to arrive as \u201ccriminal idiocy\u201d in a strong outburst on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is inexplicable that for 12 hours my friend has had no attention or check-up from the personnel dedicated to these ends,\u201d Morla said in a statement on his Twitter account.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-qWSGh iSUKoQ\">\n<p>\u201cThe ambulance took more than half an hour to arrive, which was a criminal idiocy,\u201d he added, saying that the fact should not be \u201cbrushed aside\u201d and that he would seek a full investigation into the matter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"sc-qPzgd both arrived at the property, where it soon became apparent that he was unresponsive.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-qWSGh iSUKoQ\">\n<p>According to a preliminary autopsy that has been leaked to the Argentine media, they entered Maradona\u2019s room after he failed to respond to his nephew.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-qWSGh iSUKoQ\">\n<p>The report stated: \u201cThey went to his bedroom on the ground floor and spoke to him and he didn\u2019t reply and they asked his nephew and an assistant to enter the room.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey tried to wake him up and after failing to detect any vital class=\"sc-qWSGh iSUKoQ\">\n<p>\u201dThe first emergency medical responders on the scene continued the attempts to revive Maradona along with a surgeon who lives near the property, using adrenaline and atropine which is a prescription medicine used to treat the symptoms of low heart rate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>State prosecutors said that Maradona died around midday local time, with a routine inquiry set to be completed into his death. Officials confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-qWSGh iSUKoQ\">\n<p>It\u2019s reported that Maradona died in his sleep from heart failure, which caused a pulmonary edema, where fluid builds in the lungs and fills air sacks to make breathing increasingly more difficult.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-qWSGh iSUKoQ\">\n<p>The prosecution general of San Isidro, John Broyad, said: \u201cDiego Armando Maradona died around 12pm local time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe forensic police began their work at 4pm.
