{"id":4037,"date":"2020-01-11T19:16:26","date_gmt":"2020-01-11T23:16:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=4037"},"modified":"2020-01-11T19:16:26","modified_gmt":"2020-01-11T23:16:26","slug":"russo-european-alliance-will-not-let-trump-wreck-nuclear-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=4037","title":{"rendered":"Russo-European Alliance Will Not Let Trump Wreck Nuclear Deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Merkel and Putin agree Iran nuclear deal should be preserved by all means<\/h1>\n<p><!--more--><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/5e19f65585f54077aa36f866.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4038\" srcset=\"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/5e19f65585f54077aa36f866.jpg 768w, http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/5e19f65585f54077aa36f866-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>RT.com<\/p>\n<p>President Vladimir Putin and Chancellor Angela Merkel have agreed that preserving the Iran nuclear deal is a matter of \u201ctremendous importance\u201d stressing that the agreement should be kept by all means necessary.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article__text text \">\n<p>Both leaders believe that the 2015agreement, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), still can and should be preserved, despite the latest spike in tensions sparked by the US assassination of a top Iranian general.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Speaking to journalists in Moscow following her meeting with Putin, Merkel said that\u00a0<em>\u201ceverything must be done to keep the JCPOA going\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and vowed to use\u00a0<em>\u201call the diplomatic tools to help this agreement.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>It is not perfect but it is still an agreement and it involves responsibilities for all the parties involved. And we want to keep it.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Putin also described the deal as\u00a0<em>\u201ctremendously important\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and said that both Moscow and Berlin agree that all parties need to\u00a0<em>\u201ccome back to the deal.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Putin and Merkel meet reporters after talks in Moscow [STREAMED LIVE]\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dSxixLELHDs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong>After the US refused to abide by the agreement, Iran announced suspension of its obligations as well. I would like to underscore that these obligations were voluntarily embraced by Iran. Iran is ready to come back to full compliance with the JCPOA.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Iran has rolled back all the restrictions it had committed-to under the 2015 nuclear deal, following the US assassination of Quds Force commander Major General Qassem Soleimani, as well as a barrage of crippling sanctions imposed by Washington after America itself left the agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Putin\u00a0further expressed hope that a special-purpose vehicle called INSTEX Europe, created to facilitate trade with Iran and circumvent US sanctions, would\u00a0soon\u00a0<em>\u201cbe up and running\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and that European nations\u00a0<em>\u201cwould deliver on their promise to create an independent mechanism free of the dollar influence.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So far, Europe\u2019s endeavors in this area have not been particularly successful. The mechanism was originally created in early 2019, but was apparently limited to what the European nations called high-priority\u00a0<em>\u201chumanitarian goods,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0such as food and medical supplies.
