Justices Alito and Thomas dissented.<\/p>\n<p>The court\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/search.aspx?filename=\/docket\/docketfiles\/html\/public\/22o155.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/search.aspx?filename=\/docket\/docketfiles\/html\/public\/22o155.html\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\">announced<\/a>\u00a0on Friday evening that the motion by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was denied the leave to file\u00a0<em>\u201cfor lack of standing under Article III of the Constitution.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em>Texas has not demonstrated a judicially cognizable interest in the manner in which another State conducts its elections. All other pending motions are dismissed as moot.<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"rtcode\">\n<div class=\"twitter-tweet twitter-tweet-rendered\"><iframe id=\"twitter-widget-0\" class=\"\" title=\"Twitter Tweet\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/embed\/index.html?creatorScreenName=RT_com&amp;dnt=false&amp;embedId=twitter-widget-0&amp;frame=false&amp;hideCard=false&amp;hideThread=false&amp;id=1337540965771452416&amp;lang=en&amp;origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rt.com%2Fusa%2F509453-scotus-denies-texas-election-case%2F&amp;siteScreenName=RT_com&amp;theme=light&amp;widgetsVersion=ed20a2b%3A1601588405575&amp;width=550px\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-tweet-id=\"1337540965771452416\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas dissented from the decision, saying they would have granted the motion to file the complaint,\u00a0<em>\u201cbut would not grant other relief\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and express\u00a0<em>\u201cno view on any other issue.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The justices\u00a0<em>\u201cdo not have discretion to deny the filing of a bill of complaint in a case that falls within our original jurisdiction,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Alito and Thomas said.<\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court is the original jurisdiction for settling disputes between US states. Texas sought an emergency injunction against Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin seating electors based on their electoral results, alleging that state and local officials usurped the constitutional powers of their legislatures to alter the rules, eliminated protections against fraud, and made it impossible to ascertain whether the mass mail-in voting was fair and accurate.<\/p>\n<p>Eighteen other states backed Texas in an amicus brief, and six of them had sought leave to\u00a0<em>\u201cintervene\u201d<\/em>\u00a0in the case as co-plaintiffs, as has President Donald Trump in his personal capacity. Nineteen states led by Democrats, as well as the District of Columbia and two territories, filed their own amicus brief in support of the four defendants.
