It will be the single largest roll-out of the \u201cAdChoices\u201d label to date, giving significant momentum to [\u2026]<\/h2>\n<p>Pamela Parkerhttp<br \/>\nsearchengineland.com<\/p>\n<p>Those \u201cAds by Google\u201d and \u201ci\u201d labels on AdSense ads will soon be replaced by an \u201cAdChoices\u201d triangle icon and label, as Google\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/adsense.blogspot.com\/2011\/03\/new-in-ads-notice-label-and-icon.html?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed:+blogspot\/tuAm+(Inside+AdSense)&amp;utm_content=Google+Reader\">moves<\/a>\u00a0to comply with an industry initiative from the Self-Regulatory Program for Online Behavioral Advertising. It will be the single largest roll-out of the \u201cAdChoices\u201d label to date, giving significant momentum to the effort.<\/p>\n<p>The program, aimed at regulating the industry before the government steps in, is backed by the American Association of Advertising Agencies (the Four As), the Association of National Advertisers (ANA), the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the Direct Marketing Association (DMA), the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI).<\/p>\n<p>Google says that its testing of this label has showed no impact on advertising performance.<\/p>\n<p>Display ads, which previously had the \u201ci\u201d label, will display the triangle \u201ci\u201d icon. Text ads, which previously said \u201cAds By Google,\u201d will now say \u201cAdChoices.\u201d \u00a0When consumers click on the \u201ci\u201d triangle icon on display ads, it will expand out to say \u201cAdChoices.\u201d When they click on either AdChoices label, they\u2019ll be taken to a page where they can learn more about online advertising. The page will also link users to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/ads\/preferences\">Google\u2019s advertising preferences page<\/a>, where they can see the ad categories associated with their cookie. They can also remove categories, opt-in to more, or opt out of behavioral tracking altogether.<\/p>\n<p>The changes will begin being rolled out to English language ads in most formats. Over time, the company will work to make sure that all ads on its English language Display Network carry the new \u201cAdChoices\u201d label. Ads in other countries and in other languages will continue to display \u201ci\u201d or \u201cAds by Google.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some exceptions apply, however. Some of Google\u2019s largest AdSense publishers render their own ads using javascript or an XML feed \u2014 they don\u2019t use \u00a0the standard iFrame provided by Google.
