Andrew Cuomo\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/01\/04\/gov-cuomo-blames-de-blasio-hospitals-for-slow-covid-19-vaccinations\/\">plan to fine hospitals<\/a>\u00a0as a means of speeding up the state\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/01\/01\/critics-pan-new-yorks-sluggish-covid-19-vaccine-rollout\/\">highly criticized slow vaccine rollout<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s just arrogance,\u201d de Blasio said in an interview with NY1\u2019s Errol Louis of Cuomo\u2019s claims that the monetary penalties could speed up the process.<\/p>\n<p>Hizzoner went on to defend the city\u2019s healthcare workers and told Cuomo to lay off the threats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoes he think that our healthcare professionals are uninterested in vaccinating people? How about trusting the people who have been our heroes?\u201d de Blasio said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHelp them, support them, don\u2019t fine them, don\u2019t threaten them, respect them and help them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cuomo earlier Monday deflected blame on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/12\/31\/ny-has-administered-less-than-a-third-of-covid-vaccine-it-has\/\">state\u2019s sluggish inoculation effor<\/a>t \u2014 which has seen large quantities of the vaccine supply unused \u2014 to local leaders, including de Blasio.<\/p>\n<p>The governor also specifically argued the Big Apple\u2019s city-run Health and Hospitals system have not carried their weight.<\/p>\n<p>De Blasio said on Monday night that instead of issuing threats, the state should implement new rules to foster faster vaccine delivery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need rules that maximize the pace, that help us speed up and reach the people who are available, who are a priority and who are ready, willing and able, it\u2019s common sense,\u201d the mayor said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"inline-related alignright\">\n<div id=\"more-on\" class=\"module--see-also box module inline related desktop\">\n<div class=\"module-wrapper \">\n<article class=\"story-photo-box oversize-headline\"><a class=\"story-thumbnail-wrapper\" tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/01\/04\/gov-cuomo-blames-de-blasio-hospitals-for-slow-covid-19-vaccinations\/\"><picture class=\"story-thumbnail\"><source srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/01\/andrew-cuomo-01.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=231&amp;h=154&amp;crop=1 1x\" media=\"(min-width: 640px)\" sizes=\"100vw\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/01\/andrew-cuomo-01.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=231&amp;h=154&amp;crop=1 1x\" data-sizes=\"\" \/><source srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/01\/andrew-cuomo-01.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=94&amp;h=62&amp;crop=1 1x\" media=\"(max-width: 639px)\" sizes=\"100vw\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/01\/andrew-cuomo-01.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=94&amp;h=62&amp;crop=1 1x\" data-sizes=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyloaded\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" alt=\"\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"headline-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"headline-container\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cSo, the state can help us here. \u00a0Stop threatening people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The state Department of Health on Sunday sent a letter establishing a use-it-or-lose-it position, Cuomo said, requiring providers to use the supplies they\u2019ve thus far been allocated by week\u2019s end or face fines of up to $100,000.<\/p>\n<p>Moving forward, they must use all vaccines within seven days of receipt or face fines \u2014 and risk being cut off from future shipments of the vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>Public and private hospitals statewide have used only about 46 percent of the coronavirus vaccines they have been provided, according to stats Cuomo cited Monday.<\/p>\n<p>While the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System has led the way, with about 99 percent of its allotted shots administered, by contrast, the city\u2019s Health and Hospitals network has used just 31 percent.<\/p>\n<p>But De Blasio Monday night called Cuomo\u2019s analysis of the city-run hospitals \u201cblatantly inaccurate, arguing their vaccine supply was inflated since much of the inventory was merely a day old.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat he said about Health and Hospitals was just blatantly inaccurate. A lot of that delivery to Health and Hospitals came in in the last 24 hours, they weren\u2019t even in the position to turn around and use it.
