{"id":45970,"date":"2021-01-06T22:16:02","date_gmt":"2021-01-07T02:16:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=45970"},"modified":"2021-01-06T22:16:02","modified_gmt":"2021-01-07T02:16:02","slug":"did-the-republicans-just-back-off-their-electoral-college-vote-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=45970","title":{"rendered":"Did the Republicans just back off their Electoral College vote challenge?!?!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>GOP Backs Off Election Challenge After Capitol Hill Chaos<\/h1>\n<p><!--more-->ZeroHedge.com<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday&#8217;s historic protest at the Capitol (described by some far-left outlets like Buzzfeed as a legitimate act of domestic terrorism) is working out for both of America&#8217;s establishment political factions,\u00a0<strong>the Nancy Pelosi-led Democrats, and the establishment GOP.<\/strong>\u00a0Only in the modern bifurcated media environment could Thursday&#8217;s protest be described as both a &#8220;coup d&#8217;etat&#8221; and a peaceful, non-violent demonstration (though, to be fair, one woman died after\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/political\/capitol-hill-staffers-ordered-evacuate-after-protesters-breach-security\">being shot in the ches<\/a>t).<\/p>\n<p><strong>In reality, however, it was neither.<\/strong>\u00a0And now that it&#8217;s over (instead of setting up an anarchist commune, the pro-Trump protesters mostly dispersed after they felt their point had been made), we&#8217;re starting to see how Wednesday&#8217;s protest\u00a0<strong>has created a critical opportunity for Mitch McConnell and the rest of the Congressional leadership:<em>\u00a0it has given them a way out.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/RABD.jpg?itok=xh3uE-Vf\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/RABD.jpg?itok=xh3uE-Vf\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zh-prod-1cc738ca-7d3b-4a72-b792-20bd8d8fa069.storage.googleapis.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/RABD.jpg?itok=xh3uE-Vf\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"405\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"21687d78-9d8a-4a7d-84ca-ef75dce25215\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following reports from NBC News that some Republicans were reconsidering their decision to support a challenge to the election,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/senate\/533033-gop-senators-hopeful-theyve-quashed-additional-election-challenges\">the Hill<\/a>\u00a0is reporting that\u00a0<strong>many senior Republicans are &#8220;hopeful&#8221; their colleagues have changed their minds.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But we probably won&#8217;t know for certain how many lawmakers have changed their minds until the day of the big vote.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;There&#8217;s gonna be probably 30 or 40 more minutes of debate, and one vote,&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0Rand Paul said. &#8220;I just don&#8217;t think there&#8217;s going to be another objection.\u00a0<strong>I think it&#8217;s over at that point.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Paul says he expects the Senate will vote on the objection to Arizona\u2019s Electoral College votes on Wednesday evening, but didn&#8217;t expect Republican senators to object to the results from Georgia or Pennsylvania as previously planned.Congress has already returned to continue with the debate and votes.<\/p>\n<p>When the Hill tried to contact them, spokespeople for Sens.
