Pope Francis has branded opposition to Covid-19 vaccines as \u201csuicidal denial\u201d and announced that he will receive a jab against the coronavirus disease next week.<\/p>\n

In a forthcoming interview, the 84-year-old leader of the Catholic Church says that\u00a0\u201cethically\u201d<\/em>\u00a0getting a vaccine against the virus should be a duty for everyone.<\/p>\n

\u201cNext week, we will start to do it here (in the Vatican) and I made an appointment, we must do it,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Francis told Italy\u2019s Canale 5 TV station.<\/p>\n

Segments of the interview were released on Saturday with the full comments set to be broadcast on Sunday.\u00a0\u201cThere is a suicidal denial which I cannot explain, but today we have to get vaccinated,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0the pontiff added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The comments come as Italian media outlets report that the Pope\u2019s personal doctor died on Saturday\u00a0\u201cas a result of lung complications caused by Covid-19.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Professor Fabrizio Soccorsi reportedly died on Saturday morning aged 78. He had served as the pontiff\u2019s personal physician since 2015.<\/p>\n

Pope Francis also discusses the attack on the US Capitol in the interview, saying he was\u00a0\u201cshocked\u201d\u00a0<\/em>by the chaos that unfolded in Washington, DC this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven in the most mature realities there\u2019s something that\u2019s not right, something that causes people to take to the streets against the community, against democracy, against the common good,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>he said.<\/p>\n
