Citigroup says it will temporarily stop all political contributions in the current quarter.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"caption caption-img\" role=\"group\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zh-prod-1cc738ca-7d3b-4a72-b792-20bd8d8fa069.storage.googleapis.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/Goldman-Sachs-CEO-David-Solomon-speaks-about-technology-at-AWS-Reinvent-2019-scaled.jpg?itok=LqH5tMBW\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"314\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"0f7696f7-885b-404a-a1d5-b35f38b45d2e\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><figcaption><em>Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon, 2019<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;We want you to be assured that we will not support candidates who do not respect the rule of law,&#8221; said Citi&#8217;s head of global government affairs, Candi Wolff, in a memo to employees.<\/p>\n<p>Morgan Stanley is also pausing contributions to\u00a0<strong>any member of Congress who didn&#8217;t vote to certify Biden&#8217;s win<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The action from the banks\u00a0<strong>followed an earlier announcement from\u00a0<a title=\"Company Overview\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/quote\/MAR:US\">Marriott International Inc.<\/a>, which said it will suspend donations to Republican senators who voted against certifying President-elect Joe Biden<\/strong>, after considering the \u201cdestructive events\u201d on Wednesday.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The hotel giant was among the first corporate donors to announce the severing of financial ties with the lawmakers following the Capitol Hill riot by supporters of President Donald Trump<\/strong>. While much of corporate America\u00a0<a title=\"In Trump Era's End, an Uneasy Reckoning for Corporate America (1)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-01-08\/in-trump-era-s-end-an-uneasy-reckoning-for-corporate-america\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">swiftly condemned<\/a>\u00a0the violence, few companies have publicly vowed to cut off financial support to the elected officials that backed Trump\u2019s baseless claims of election fraud. &#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-01-10\/marriott-suspends-donations-to-senators-who-opposed-vote-result?sref=ZMFHsM5Z\">Bloomberg<\/a><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;We have taken the destructive events at the Capitol to undermine a legitimate and fair election into consideration and will be pausing political giving from our Political Action Committee to those who voted against certification of the election,&#8221; said a Marriott spokesperson.
