The former mayor and forever billionaire Michael Bloomberg, who has an apartment in London, was bestowed the title Honorary Knight of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE<\/span>) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth\u00a0II<\/span>\u00a0for his \u201cprodigious entrepreneurial and philanthropic endeavours, and the many ways in which they have benefited the United Kingdom and the\u00a0UK<\/span>–US<\/span>\u00a0special relationship,\u201d\u00a0the Brits announced today<\/a>. But don\u2019t call him\u00a0<\/span>\u201cSir.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the\u00a0Times<\/i><\/a><\/i>:<\/p>\n

Because Mr. Bloomberg is not a British citizen, he cannot be referred to as \u201cSir\u201d in the common parlance of knighthood. But he \u201cmay forthwith put \u2018K.B.<\/span>E.\u2019 after his name if he wishes,\u201d the announcement said, signifying his status as a knight of the British\u00a0<\/span>Empire.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
