Denmark is the latest country to announce that it is rolling out a \u2018Covid passport\u2019, to allow those who have taken the vaccine to engage in society without any restrictions.<\/strong><\/p>\n Reuters notes<\/a>\u00a0that the immunity passport is being developed by the Danish government.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is expected that there may be requirements from other countries to present vaccine documentation upon entry. A Danish vaccine passport can be used here,\u201d the Danish Health Ministry said in a statement on Friday.<\/p>\n Further reports indicate<\/a>\u00a0that the immunity document will be issued via the Danish eHealth Portal, with a government issued login, and will be a \u2018self-print\u2019 document.<\/p>\n An example of the document was provided to Danish media:<\/p>\n Michael Svane, industry director of The Danish Transport Federation commented that the move is a \u2018step on the way to a more open society.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cA vaccination passport is the way for us to put restrictions behind us and travel by air much more,\u201d Svane stated.<\/p>\n Svane also noted that he hopes that international solutions will be developed to ensure that the vaccine passport is approved globally.<\/p>\n The move toward a vaccine passport was also praised by Esben Marcher, head of secretariat at Dansk Live, one of the country\u2019s largest events organisers.<\/p>\n Marcher noted \u201cI think many festivals will use it, because it can help ensure that there are no outbreaks of infection during the implementation.\u201d<\/p>\n The system would be similar in nature to that being considered by Ticketmaster, who it was revealed are considering making customers prove they\u2019ve had the vaccine or a negative coronavirus test before allowing them to purchase tickets.<\/p>\n Ticketmaster later\u00a0clarified<\/a>\u00a0that a final decision on such measures would be up to event organizers but that they were still mulling over the implementation of the system.<\/p>\n The spectre of so called \u2018immunity passports\u2019 is looming globally. Recently,\u00a0the government in Ontario, Canada admitted<\/a>\u00a0that it is exploring \u2018immunity passports\u2019 in conjunction with restrictions on travel and access to social venues for the unvaccinated.<\/p>\n Last month,\u00a0Israel announced<\/a>\u00a0that citizens who get the COVID-19 vaccine will be given \u2018green passports\u2019 that will enable them to attend venues and eat at restaurants.<\/p>\n The British government has\u00a0contracted two firms<\/a>\u00a0to develop COIVD \u2018freedom passports\u2019, that would be used to segregate society between those who have been tested or vaccinated against COVID and those who have not.<\/p>\n We previously reported<\/a>, back in November, on the government\u2019s active plans to develop a QR code system to use as an \u2018immunity passport\u2019.<\/p>\n The report, stemming from\u00a0sources close to the government<\/a>, noted that \u201cThose who refuse to get the Covid-19 jab would likely be refused entry to venues, as part of the same proposals.\u201d<\/p>\n Other reports have suggested<\/a>\u00a0that an app already used prominently in the UK by people to book doctor and hospital appointments could implement a vaccination status section that will show whether a person has taken the coronavirus jab or not, and that businesses may use it to refuse entry to those who have not.<\/p>\n A\u00a0litany<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0other<\/a>\u00a0government\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0travel industry figures<\/a>\u00a0in both the US, Britain\u00a0and beyond<\/a>\u00a0have suggested that\u00a0\u2018COVID passports\u2019<\/a>\u00a0are coming in order for\u00a0\u2018life to get back to normal\u2019.<\/a><\/p>\n Sam Grant, campaign manager at the civili liberties advocacy group\u00a0Liberty\u00a0<\/em>has warned that \u201cany form of immunity passport risks creating a two-tier system in which some of us have access to freedoms and support while others are shut out.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThese systems could result in people who don\u2019t have immunity potentially being blocked from essential public services, work or housing \u2013 with the most marginalised among us hardest hit,\u201d Grant further warned.<\/p>\n \u201cThis has wider implications too because any form of immunity passport could pave the way for a full ID system \u2013 an idea which has repeatedly been rejected as incompatible with building a rights-respecting society,\u201d Grant further urged.<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Screen-Shot-2021-01-13-at-8.29.09-AM.png\")
