Both called Trump an \u201cidiot\u201d and said Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton deserved to win.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"page-content__row page-content__row--story main-section\">\n<div class=\"container container--story story-layout--fixed-fluid\">\n<div class=\"container__column container__column--story\">\n<div class=\"container__row container__row--story story-layout--fluid-fixed\">\n<div class=\"container__column container__column--story center-horizontally\">\n<div class=\"story-text\">\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">The texts also included murky discussions of an \u201c<strong>insurance policy<\/strong>\u201d to guard against Trump\u2019s election.\u00a0<strong>Trump backers have interpreted the reference as a plan to use the then-ongoing investigation into ties between Trump advisers and Russia as way to prevent him from taking office or undermine his presidency<\/strong>, but Strzok and Page have denied any such intent. &#8211;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/01\/18\/rosenstein-strzok-page-texts-100776\">Politico<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Lisa Page &#8211; who\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/political\/no-insurance-policy-lisa-page-sues-fbi-doj-unlawful-disclosure-strozk-texts\">sued the DOJ and FBI<\/a>\u00a0in December over the release, appears to be pissed.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">All I can say is this: I very much look forward to Rod\u2019s deposition. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/so43a38WBh\">https:\/\/t.co\/so43a38WBh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Lisa Page (@NatSecLisa) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NatSecLisa\/status\/1218589611137667073?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 18, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Strzok has separately sued the agencies as well &#8211; for which Rosenstein&#8217;s admission was submitted as part of the government&#8217;s defense. The former DAG says that <strong>public disclosure of the texts was inevitable<\/strong> in connection with testimony he was set to give the next day in front of the House Judiciary Committee.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With the express understanding that it would not violate the Privacy Act and that the text messages would become public by the next day in any event, I authorized [Justice\u2019s Office of Public Affairs] to disclose to the news media the text messages that were being disclosed to Congressional committees,&#8221; wrote Rosenstein.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">In November, the Justice Department asked U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson to throw out Strzok\u2019s suit, which challenges both his firing from the FBI and the release of the texts. However, Strzok\u2019s attorneys countered in a court filing last month that one reason to allow the suit to proceed was that Justice Department was being vague about just who made the final call to give the messages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">Arguing that an air of mystery continued to surround the disclosure, Strzok lawyer Aitan Goelman called \u201crevealing\u201d Justice\u2019s decision to seek dismissal of the suit without identifying the responsible official.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">\u201cAn agency cannot avoid Privacy Act liability for a disclosure actually made for an improper purpose by eliciting a sanitized after-the-fact rationale from an official who does not have all of the facts,\u201d Goelman wrote. &#8211;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/01\/18\/rosenstein-strzok-page-texts-100776\">Politico<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">According to Rosenstein, his aides originally suggested that he should delay sending the texts to Congress until after his testimony in front of the House, however he thought it would be &#8220;inappropriate&#8221; to do so for that reason.
