How Beersheva plans to be the world hub of desert technology<\/h1>\n

Israel\u2019s Negev desert has long attracted scientists, environmentalists and\u00a0solar energy-tech<\/a>\u00a0enthusiasts seeking Israel\u2019s know-how on\u00a0combatting desertification<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A new initiative,\u00a0DeserTech<\/a>, aims to transform that activity into an active networking community.<\/p>\n

DeserTech is intended to bring together entrepreneurs, investors, academics, students and government institutions in the\u00a0city of Beersheva<\/a>, at the northern tip of the Negev.<\/p>\n

Beersheva has the world\u2019s only\u00a0Innovation Center for Climate Change<\/a>, specializing in desert technology.<\/p>\n

Innovation districts like this one are meant to shift innovation development from a suburban area accessible only by car to a transit-accessible urban setting close to clusters of companies, organizations and mixed-use housing and retail.<\/p>\n

Within a radius of little more than a kilometer, Beersheva boasts a high-tech park, university, hospital and train station.<\/p>\n
