Democrats’ allegations that some congressional Republicans helped demonstrators\u00a0scout the Capitol before\u00a0the violent Jan. 6 riot simply are “baseless,”\u00a0according to Rep. Pat Fallon, R-Texas,\u00a0on Newsmax TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n Fallon joined\u00a0Friday’s ”Spicer & Co.<\/a>” and shot down\u00a0claims by Rep. Mikie Sherrill, D-N.J., that GOP members\u00a0appeared to provide\u00a0“reconnaissance” tours to eventual insurrectionists.<\/p>\n “It’s interesting, when a liberal makes a comment or a statement or an assertion, then they have to carry weight and have to be taken seriously and looked into\u00a0\u2014 when there’s no evidence whatsoever. None!”\u00a0Fallon told co-hosts Sean Spicer and Lyndsay Keith.<\/p>\n “When we say anything, we’re held to a higher standard as conservatives. I think it’s frivolous. I think it’s scandalous. I think it’s libel. It’s completely untrue, and mark my words: In a few months, there’ll be no evidence whatsoever. Of course, they won’t rescind, because the media will stop talking about it.”<\/p>\n Fallon, a freshman congressman, said some constituents had reached out requesting\u00a0to say hi or for Capitol tours in recent weeks, but Fallon was unable to accommodate.<\/p>\n He then ridiculed the accusations by Sherrill and other Democrats, more than 30 of whom sent a letter to Capitol security officials demanding information about “suspicious” visitors at the Capitol on Jan. 5,\u00a0per Politico<\/a>.<\/p>\n “When I try to take Uncle Bob and Aunt Betty on a little tour of Statuary Hall, that doesn’t mean we’re trying to overthrow the greatest republic history has ever known,”\u00a0Fallon said. “I didn’t, but I would have been willing to take anybody. I’m looking forward to that, when the Capitol opens again, but because of COVID, it’s been very difficult to get people in.<\/p>\n “Again, [the accusations are] baseless. There’s no evidence. As your old boss and our president [Donald Trump] said, ‘Fake news.'”<\/p>\n
