{"id":49498,"date":"2021-01-23T14:14:42","date_gmt":"2021-01-23T18:14:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=49498"},"modified":"2021-01-23T14:14:42","modified_gmt":"2021-01-23T18:14:42","slug":"national-guard-troops-will-not-be-leaving-washington-d-c","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=49498","title":{"rendered":"National Guard Troops Will Not Be Leaving Washington, D.C."},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Thousands Of National Guard Troops To Remain In DC Through March<\/h1>\n<p><!--more-->by Zachary Stieber<br \/>\nThe Epoch Times<\/p>\n<p>At least 5,000\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-national-guard\">National Guard<\/a>\u00a0members will remain in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-washington\">Washington<\/a>\u00a0through mid-March, a spokesman for the agency confirmed to The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAs we continue to\u00a0<strong>work to meet the final post-inauguration requirements<\/strong>, the National Guard has been requested to continue supporting federal law enforcement agencies with 7,000 members and will draw down to 5,000 through mid-March,\u201d Maj. Matt Murphy told The Epoch Times via email.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cWe are providing assistance such as security, communications, medical evacuation, logistics, and safety support to state, district, and federal agencies,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>he added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The U.S. Army didn\u2019t respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/national-guard-in-dc-3-700x420.jpg?itok=UY87kH_7\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/national-guard-in-dc-3-700x420.jpg?itok=UY87kH_7\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zh-prod-1cc738ca-7d3b-4a72-b792-20bd8d8fa069.storage.googleapis.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/national-guard-in-dc-3-700x420.jpg?itok=UY87kH_7\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"b6e0aaa8-c6a2-443b-b3d4-f8bc88aa0ba9\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tens of thousands of National Guard personnel poured into the nation\u2019s capital for the inauguration of President Joe Biden. Over 26,000 were on duty on Jan. 20, as part of a heavy militarization of Washington.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Guardsmen experienced no security incidents and only three people were arrested in Washington on Inauguration Day<\/strong>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/no-security-incidents-involving-national-guard-on-inauguration-day-spokesperson_3666110.html\">agencies said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>About 10,600 Guard personnel were on duty as of Thursday. (Rebecca Blackwell\/AP Photo)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Christopher Rodriguez, a District of Columbia\u00a0homeland security official, said that same day that the city requested continued support from the Guard with traffic management and crowd control through Jan. 30<em><strong>\u00a0\u201cbecause we do anticipate that there will be another National Special Security Event occurring in the joint session of Congress.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The numbers of troops needed were still being calculated, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Three governors on Friday\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/3-governors-order-their-troops-back-from-dc_3667497.html\">said<\/a>\u00a0they were requesting the return of their troops.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI\u2019ve ordered the immediate return of all New Hampshire National Guard from Washington D.C.,\u201d New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, a Republican, said in a tweet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThey did an outstanding job serving our nation\u2019s capital in a time of strife and should be graciously praised, not subject to substandard conditions.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, echoed the disenchantment of other governors with the way the FBI vetted all troops in Washington, resulting in the removal of at least 12, while saying on \u201cFox &amp; Friends\u201d<strong>\u00a0it was time for the troops to leave the \u201chalf-cocked mission.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Legislators expressed outrage earlier in the week when pictures emerged showing members\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/after-bipartisan-uproar-guardsmen-in-dc-return-to-warm-quarters_3667306.html\">spending time in a parking garage<\/a>. The U.S. Capitol Police\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us-capitol-police-denies-relocating-national-guard-troops-from-capitol-to-garage_3667809.html\">denied<\/a>\u00a0telling the guard to leave the U.S. Capitol.
