White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki has come under fire for referring to Sen. Lindsey Graham as \u201cLady G\u201d in an old tweet that\u2019s being slammed as off base and homophobic.<\/p>\n

The Aug. 5, 2020 post sparked backlash when it resurfaced this week on Twitter, with several people calling on Psaki to apologize for using the \u201coffensive\u201d and \u201ctone-deaf\u201d phrase.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly in 2020 does\u00a0#LadyG\u00a0get to push a bunch of debunked conspiracy theories while questioning\u00a0@SallyQYates\u00a0(aka an American hero),\u201d\u00a0Psaki tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The comment came as former acting attorney general Sally Yates was set to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee, which Graham (R-SC) chairs.<\/p>\n

The hashtags #LadyG and #LadyGraham trended on Twitter last year after a gay porn star made a series of allegations against the South Carolina lawmaker online and claimed \u201cLady G\u201d was his nickname among male sex workers.<\/p>\n

Critics on the left have long insinuated that 65-year-old Graham is a closeted gay man because he was never married and had children,\u00a0according to Fox News<\/a>. He has denied the rumors.<\/p>\n

Several Twitter users blasted Psaki over the tweet.<\/p>\n

Richard Grenell, who served as former President Donald Trump\u2019s acting director of national intelligence and is openly gay, wrote: \u201cHomophobia and intolerance from the Left is growing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis should be widely condemned. @PressSec,\u201d\u00a0he added<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Journalist Glenn Greenwald\u00a0noted<\/a>: \u201cLiberals have full and complete exemptions from the speech rules to which everyone else is subjected.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cVery disappointed someone in her position would embrace this style politics,\u201d Graham\u2019s spokesman Kevin Bishop said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt says more about her than it does about Senator Graham.\u201d<\/p>\n

Psaki did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Post.<\/p>\n
